Will Smith is no stranger to onscreen transformations and his latest may be one of his most unique yet.
The superstar takes center stage in ‘King Richard’ – the real-life narrative of Richard Williams, the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams.
Viewers are promised a raw and resonating insight into the familial beginnings of one of the most iconic surnames in sports.
The Warner Bros production chronicles Richard’s story as he draws on his vision, perseverance, and unconventional methodology to take his family from the streets of Compton, California to global superstardom.
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, the film sees Smith joined by Aunjanue Ellis who plays the girls’ mother, Oracene “Brandi” Williams, Saniyaa Sidney in the role of Venus Williams, and Demi Singleton as Serena Williams. Tony Goldwyn also appears as coach Paul Cohen.
Check out the first look trailer below…
Speaking on the movie, Smith said:
“One of the greatest honors as an actor is to be able to celebrate someone’s legacy while they’re still here creating it. I’ve gotten to do it a few times in my career playing Chris Gardner and Muhammad Ali, and every time it’s a fulfilling and expansive experience beyond compare.
So now, I’m proud to show you all our first trailer for King Richard, the story of the man who introduced the world to Venus Williams and Serena Williams. The origin story for some REAL DEAL superheroes!!
Thank You Venus, Serena, Isha, Lyndrea, Yetunde, Oracene and Richard for letting us share your story with the World!”
‘King Richard’ is released in theaters and on HBO Max on November 19 2021.
Based on the trailer it looks like Will Smith is getting better at portrayals (I hope so); also looks like it’s going to be a good film. Looking forward to seeing it.
Already empowered. I can hardly wait
