Eva Marcille on “Salty” ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Alums: “Leave Tyra Banks Alone”

Published: Tuesday 7th Jun 2022 by Sam

When on the air, ‘America’s Next Top Model’ was both a ratings smash and a cultural phenomenon.

In the years since its initial run, the Tyra Banks-helmed series has been scrutinized – almost on a monthly basis – through a contemporary lens.

The less than endorsing claims have been plentiful and have included accounts from contestants on the long-running show.

One person that isn’t here for the critique, though, is season 3 winner Eva Marcille.

Since triumphing on the 2004 installment of the UPN series, she went on to enjoy a multi-dimensional career in the limelight – racking up modeling, acting, TV, and hosting gigs.

And she’s not feeling the derogatory claims about ANTM from others who haven’t demonstrated the same work ethic.

Find out what she had to say below…

Speaking on the Behind The Velvet Rope podcast, the former ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star said:

“Leave Tyra alone. Tyra Banks, Tyra Lynne Banks is my girl. No good deed goes unpunished. Think about it. She created a show to give a platform to people that would never have an opportunity in this space. This [show] wasn’t 5’10 models she could get off the street who could get any agent. These were people who needed grooming and help. And she did that.”

Pointing at other success stories such as Yaya DaCosta, Don Benjamin, Toccara Jones (all of whom have excelled following their appearance on Top Model), Marcille went on to stress that hustle is everything:

“It’s one of those things where it was an opportunity, it’s like college: you go to school, you do something with your degree, or you don’t. And I think those that chose not to do anything with their degree are salty.”

Do you agree?

Your thoughts?

    Evil
Spoken like a real evil person

    Tyra tortured those girls.
Back then us watching this show,we were so young so we didnt understand what tyra was doing to those girls was wrong

Cutting their hair when u could just give them a wig
Making them cry for no reason

Putting them in stressful situations, making them do photo shoots in graves and on skyscrapers
    And for what?

The prices weren’t even that lucrative
Cover girl contract? Anybody can get that today

Omg get over it. The modeling industry is brutal and most of those b****** woulda never broke through. ANTM was the closest they could get.

      • Clarks0o00ñ June 7, 2022

Watch those old episodes what tyra did to those girls was straight up bullying.

she was awful to yaya because yaya was very pro African

The modelling industry is hard but she shouldn’t have done many of those things she did to the girls.

What was the point of shaving their head when u could give them a wig? and she always sent them home after shaving their head, why?

      • UHoesFunny June 7, 2022

        😂😂

  2. UHoesFunny June 7, 2022

Well said. Granted Top Model has some problematic moments, but Eva is right! Don’t blame Tyra. She gave you the opportunity, you swindled it yourself.

  3. Gworl Bye June 7, 2022

She is 1000% correct. They were all given the same opportunity & spotlight. If they screwed it up & got nowhere, that’s their own fault, not Tyra’s.

    • Famousfkr June 7, 2022

💯 most of those h*** weren’t cut out for the brutal modeling industry anyway. People are always looking to create a moment where there is none.

  4. Josh June 7, 2022

    Says the winner. Girl bye!

  5. Shayla Queen™ 👑 June 7, 2022

Eva ain’t ISH next to Tyra!

  6. Clarks0o00ñ June 7, 2022

Eva u are talking this way cause things turned out alright for u.

U were destined for fame whether u won this competition or not.
Many girls have complained about tyra , and this is why young models working today dont acknowledge tyra, they rather acknowledge naomi even tho naomi herself isnt perfect.

tyra yelling at tiffany a grown woman , degrading her , that was nasty and foul.

    • Jessie June 7, 2022

It was TV! Reality TV at that… things were much different back then. People weren’t as fragile as they are now. Anyway most this occurred 10+ years ago. The stories from ACTUAL models are way worse than what Tyra put those girls through.

And of course Naomi is more respected than Tyra in the industry. Naomi is a high fashion model. One of the greatest. She’s what the girls aspire to be. Tyra eventually became a VS Angel and catalogue model due to her fluctuating weight but they were both pop culture ICONS in the 90’s/2000’s.

  7. Paulo June 7, 2022

I don’t really agree but it’s not really fair to hold Tyra personally accountable and not the entire fashion industry and the TV producers. This is how TV was/is made and this is how the fashion treated/treats models backstage. It’s easy to pin it all on one woman instead of all the suits pulling the strings backstage.

  8. Erykah Badu (AKA Badulla Oblongata, AKA Sara Bellum, AKA Lo Down Loretta Brown, AKA Analogue Girl in a Digital World, AKA @FatBellyBella, AKA SHE ILL, AKA Manuela Maria Mexico) June 7, 2022

Tyra has opened a lot of doors

  9. Kyle June 7, 2022

Looking back, there were so things that were a bit much. The show deserves criticism. But the constant criticism is too much as well. I think some of these girls are complaining because it’s popular to do because our society is more sensitive now & they can get attention from it. If the show was so bad, why not speak out when it came out? Why wait over 10 years?

    • True Tea June 7, 2022

You pretty much answered ur own question, lol

Back then people did NOT receive the same amount of attention for speaking out since you were viewed as too sensitive.

  10. True Tea June 7, 2022

Those Women ALLOWED Tyra to treat them like sh** for the opportunities. If someone make you an offer and you take it, that is your choice.

These Women knew what they signed up for but went along & ignored the fact…

Most ppl to some degree have to compromise in order to advance. It comes w/ the FAME. Tyra had to stop eating for years and endure constant criticism over her appearance…natural hair. You heifers are NOT dead.

    End off…

  11. Dolly Farton June 8, 2022

    True.

Some of Tyras antics are questionable but TORTURE it was not.
Have u noticed that reality TV is for tough people? Those ppl were soft.

Did anyone boycott Fear Factor? No. It’s reality TV, anything could happen. Literally!

It’s crazy how h*** complaining but no one WALKED OFF THE SHOW. Did Tyra hold a gun or..
