EMMY-nominated actress Letitia Wright leads the cast of ‘Mangrove,’ a forthcoming episode of Amazon Prime’s ‘Small Axe’ (an anthology series from Steve McQueen).

Telling the true story of the Mangrove Nine (a group of Black activists who clashed with London police during a protest march in 1970), the event spurred a highly publicized trial that was later christened the “first judicial acknowledgment of behavior motivated by racial hatred within the Metropolitan Police. “

50 years after the assassination of prolific civil rights leader/Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton at the hands of the FBI, his life story is being brought to the big screen courtesy of Shaka King.

A timely release given the burning spotlight on racial injustice, the film – titled ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ – tells his story via a star-studded cast toplined by the likes of Academy Award-nominee Daniel Kaluuya (as Hampton), Lakeith Stanfield (as his ‘Judas’ William O’Neal), Ashton Sanders, Algee Smith, Martin Sheen, and more.

Ryan Coogler (director of Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’) and Charles King serve as producers.

Despite years of backlash and disapproval from Nina Simone‘s family, celebrity admirers, and fans alike, 2016 saw Zoe Saldana don the role of the R&B icon/civil rights activist in the unauthorized biopic, ‘Nina.’

At the time of its release (as we reported here), the Afro-Latinx actress defended her decision to portray Simone:

“There’s no one way to be black,” Zoe said. “I’m black the way I know how to be. You have no idea who I am. I am black. I’m raising black men. Don’t you ever think you can look at me and address me with such disdain.”

Years later, the 42-year-old actress is singing a different tune.  Recently taking to Instagram Live, a tearful Saldana opened up to ‘Pose’ creator Steven Canals to express regret over accepting the controversial gig.

One of the ‘Ellen’ employees who has stepped forward to condemn the talk show’s host alleged backstage behaviour has given an interview to ‘Inside Edition‘.

There, the infuriated producer labelled the entertainer a phoney and urged the general public not to be fooled or bamboozled by her seemingly sunny personality.

This, after Kevin Hart and Katy Perry vowed to support the star as the empire she worked tirelessly to build crumbles under the weight of drama those who know her say she created.
