“Everybody wanna be in the limelight.”

Louis York continue to lay the path for the next studio release ‘Masterpiece Theater – Act II’ with the release of the latest single ‘Limelight‘ today.

Related to Jazmine Sullivan‘s ‘Mascara’ thematically, the song sees the duo swim within the weird and occasionally wild world of social media fame, its accessibility and, to some extent, its vacuous nature.

Limelight is the song we’ve been dying to release. It’s all about our twisted addiction with social media, fame and the dark side of pop culture. Sonically, we wanted to keep the instrumentation of the production quirky and fun because of the seriousness of this concept. These days it feels like chasing the limelight has become more important than actually being known for something meaningful. We felt we had to address it the best way we know how – through music.

What are Your Top 5 Songs of The Moment?

With 88,000 downloads sold and a whopping 22.8 million streams its first full week of availability, The Weeknd‘s newest tune – ‘Starboy’ – has zoomed from its debut spot of #40 last week to #3 this week. The Daft Punk-assisted number may even see higher heights next week thanks to a much talked-about live premiere via ‘SNL’ last weekend (watch that here if you missed it).

Yet, while the ‘Earned It’ crooner and co. celebrate their victories, there’s one singer who probably isn’t in the most celebratory mood – Lady Gaga.  That’s right, after ‘Perfect Illusion’ – the lead single from her 5th album ‘Joanne’ – made a moderate #15 debut three weeks ago, the tune plunged out of the top 40 the next week.  And, while fans were hopeful the song’s video would help hoist it upward, this week has proven the exact opposite.  Yep, it’s now dropped out of the top 50!

Find out where it and all your other favorites of the day landed on this week’s refreshed TGJ CHART CHECK Hot 100:
