Taped at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, the annual Grio Awards – hosted by actor-comics Roy Woods Jr. and Sheryl Underwood – aired Saturday night (November 25) and gave nods to the achievements of African Americans across fashion, entertainment, sports, philanthropy, business, environmental and social justice, and education.
Among the 2023 honorees was Mariah Carey, who not only stands in Billboard records book as the most-decorated chart-topper in Hot 100 history (among soloists) but is also one of the best-selling female singers of all time.
Beyond accepting the night’s Music Icon Award, Mariah saw her timeless catalog toasted via a tribute rendered by Coco Jones, Boyz II Men, Patti LaBelle, and Jennifer Hudson.
See their stirring performances inside.
