The second video of Beyonce’s dual release, ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’ premiered today on MTV. As with the ‘If I Were A Boy’ clip, this video was directed by Jake Nava. About it, I must say, as a performance piece (which it is in its entirety), the video really is something. The high octane choreography drives home the fact that there are few that can do what Ms. Knowles does when doing her. That said, it wouldn’t have hurt to see something a little more visually stimulating than just the same background and set-up. Still, that doesn’t take away from what is, no doubt, a great video.

X Factor 2008: Live Show - Week 1The first week of X Factor 2008 live shows started last night here in the UK. Check out my 2 Pence below:

{For those unfamiliar with the show; The X Factor is the UK’s version of American Idol – with a twist in that groups and over 25’s are eligible to enter. The show also birthed the career of a certain Leona Lewis}
With the anticipated theatrics of the audition stage being over, the real work starts with the live shows. Now under the watchful eyes of millions, we’ll begin to see who are feasible stars and who can simply carry a note. As for last night’s show, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that both Alexandra Burke and Laura White are leading the pack – by a mile. Check out their performances on last night’s live show below:

Alexandra Burke – I Wanna Dance With Somebody

Laura White – Fallin’

Here’s hoping these two last the distance.

Your thoughts

Originally set to premiere this coming Monday, Beyonce’s new video for ‘If I Were A Boy’ debuted on Yahoo Music a few hours ago. After hearing the song and piecing together the set pics from a while back, I was left scratching my head as to how they’d match up visually on screen. However after watching the Jake Nava directed video, I am pleasantly surprised. The black and white ‘concept’ video really brings the song to life in a way I hadn’t thought possible. I can really see where Ms. Knowles is going with this one. One of her best videos yet IMO. Absolutely fantastic.

What do you think of the video?

The video for Britney Spears’ new single ‘Womanizer’ made its much hyped debut on ABCs 20/20 a few hours ago and it was worth all of it (the hype, that is) – well mostly. Directed by previous Britney collaborator Joseph Khan, the video is a big budget, special effect heavy affair, which truly rings in the return of the ‘old’ Britney. That said, it would have been great to see some more emphasis on the choreography – allowing us to see if Ms. Spears still has ‘it’ in that department. Still, I doubt this matters, with the song burring up the digital charts upon its release this week and Britney’s willingness with the promotion of the project, this looks like it’ll be B-I-G.

What do you think of the video?

The video for the Pussycat Dolls latest international single ‘I Hate This Part’ made its debut today. I’ll fast forward to the crux of the situation; put simply, the song and video are utter crap. Complete and utter crap. This may as well have been the ‘Nicole & Co Show’ as, as usual, she had too many scenes alone and, again, is the only one singing.

I maintain that the girl’s latest release ‘Doll Domination’ would actually be performing better (as opposed to flopping all over the place) if they switched it up dynamic-wise this go round. I mean, does anyone think Destiny’s Child would have been as big as they were if Beyonce carried on singing everything ala ‘Say My Name’ days? I don’t think so.

Anyway, for those who question why I insist on querying why the other chicks don’t sing, check out Melody from the group (the brown skinned member) giving a rendition of Christina Aguilera’s ‘Hurt’ earlier this year:

My point exactly. SMH…

A somewhat crazy (but you have to love her) Tyra Banks went behind the scenes of Janet Jackson’s ‘Rock Witchu’ Las Vegas tour stop. Funny stuff.

Ever sat and wondered ‘what the hell is going on in Britney’s mind’? Well, come November 30th we’ll all get the answer we’ve been waiting for. MTV will be airing an exclusive documentary on the comeback Pop princess.

“For the Record” documents a three-month period of Spears’ life earlier this year, including sessions for her upcoming Jive album, “Circus,” and preparations for her appearance on MTV’s Video Music Awards.

An MTV spokesperson says “no topic was off limits” during the interviews.

“I sit there and I look back and I’m like, ‘I’m a smart person. What the hell was I thinking?,'” Spears says at one point. “I’ve been through a lot in the past two or three years and there’s a lot that people don’t know.” {Source}

There’s no doubt the world’s eyes will be on this one. (Sidenote: This will inevitably be great press for Britney in the run up to her new album, ‘Circus’ December 2nd release.

T.I. Makes Chart History Rapper T.I. dominates the charts this week on multiple fronts. The Atlanta native’s latest Long Play effort ‘Paper Trail’ stormed to the top the Billboard 200 chart with a whopping 568,000 copies sold in its first week – the highest selling debut of his career.
Elsewhere, his collaboration with Rihanna ‘Live Your Life’ breaks the record for the biggest chart jump on the Billboard Hot 100 – soaring #80-#1 – due to a surge in digital sales. Interestingly, the song unseats his ‘Whatever You Like’ from the top spot – itself breaking records 6 weeks ago after leaping #71-#1. The last artist to achieve such a feat was Usher in 2004 – with ‘Burn’ topping ‘Yeah’ on the same chart.
The week’s 2nd highest debut came from American Idol Alumni Jennifer Hudson, whose self titled debut landed at #2 – selling through an impressive 217,000. {Source}
More power to them both.

Hot on the promotional trail in support of her great new album ‘Unexpected’, Michelle Williams stopped by The Today Show for an interview. Williams, of course, spoke about the project, going it alone (solo), fashion and much more.

Michelle’s vibrant personality really shone through on this one. (Randomness: is it me or were the interviewers a little on the snotty side?)

Brandy's 'Human' Pushed Back According to our friends over at Rap-Up.com, Brandy’s ‘comeback’ LP ‘Human’ has been delayed. Instead of arriving in stores on November 11th, the album will now be released on December 9th. ‘Human’ will now being going up against releases from the likes of Ciara, Keri Hilson and 50 Cent.
It’s a shame the album has been pushed back. Still, with ‘Right Here’ not performing as well as it should IMO, I’m all for dropping another single before the album’s release, which seems to be the plan at present.

R&B star Chris Brown stopped by The Ellen Degeneres Show today to discuss a variety of things, including his ‘relationship’ Rihanna, their matching tattoos, working on Britney Spears’ new album and more. A pretty good interview I must say (Tidbit: You can skip through the annoying ad break).

Black Eyed Peas Prep 'The E.N.D'Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.i.am spoke with Billboard recently about the group’s forthcoming album. Titled ‘The E.N.D’, the recording sessions for the LP will wrap right here in London next week. Check out what Will had to say of the album:

The album title is not an indication that it’s intended to be the hip-hop outfit’s final record. “No, no — it stands for ‘The Energy Never Dies,'” explains will.i.am.

Asked about the group’s future relationship with the Universal Music label, will.i.am said, “It all depends on how they evolve, it’s up to them to define what they’re going to be in the future.”

“We still have a contract with them,” says will.i.am, adding that the number of albums left to deliver was “not that many.”

“They want it to come out soon but I don’t know if that’s the right thing,” he added, when asked about the label’s plans for the record.

Irrespective the explanation of the album title, I’m getting ‘this is our last record’ vibes. With this being their first LP since Fergie blew up, it’ll be interesting to see how this one pans out.
