Just hours after sharing the tracklist to her long-awaited debut album, ‘Back of My Mind’ (as we reported here), Academy and GRAMMY Award-winning songstress H.E.R. unveils yet another listen to tunes that line the project.
Titled ‘My Own,’ the song tells the tale of trying one’s hardest to resist the advances of Mr. Wrong.
“Baby, I can’t take no more from you / I don’t wanna play no more / Know we goin’ back and forth on me / I be all ready, on call / Even when I know it’s wrong from me / Somethin’, I don’t know, but it’s somethin’ / I don’t wanna work for somethin’ knowin’ it ain’t worth it,” she coos on the spacey track.
Ahead of its parent album’s June 18 debut, look inside to hear ‘My Own’:
‘Rolling Stone,’ ‘Associated Press,’ ‘Entertainment Tonight,’ ‘Access Hollywood,’ and ‘People’ are just a few of the high profile outlets graced by GRAMMY-winning Monica in promotion of her new true crime series, ‘Infamy.’
The VH1 show, which premiered June 7th, was among many burning topics the R&B diva tackled over the last few weeks as she raced through a slew of media appearances.
With other subject matter ranging from her serially-delayed ninth studio album, ‘Trenches,’ to the future of her other VH1 endeavors, Mo left few stones unturned across her promotional promenade.

Despite rendering two multiPlatinum singles – ‘Yummy’ and ‘Intentions’ (featuring Quavo) – Justin Bieber‘s 2020 era, ‘Changes,’ was widely regarded a failure when compared to the mega-success of the efforts that preceded it.
Quickly abandoned (in some part due to the global health crisis as well), the era’s successor – 2021’s ‘Justice’ – has proven in more ways than one it’s picking up the slack.
Despite being arrested the same weekend his latest album, the June 11-released ‘Hall of Fame,’ hit shelves, Polo G has much to celebrate as reports have it the LP is pacing toward a #1 debut on the Billboard 200.
To widen the sales gap between himself and his nearest competitor for the position (Migos), G’s unleashed yet another music video from the critically acclaimed project – this time giving his DaBaby-assisted cut ‘Party Lyfe’ the visual treatment.
Before reminding ‘VERZUZ’ viewers she truly is the baddest b*tch via her epic showdown with fellow femcee Eve (June 16), Trina surprised fans with new song, ‘Receipts.’
Produced by Hitmaka, the braggadocious bop sees the 42-year-old reaffirm her status as one of female Rap’s leading ladies.
“B*tches mad ’cause I brag, but I’m the baddest that these ni**as ever had—that’s facts,” she decrees before continuing, “I’m the mother to the game, time to get these hoes some sitters.”

All roads lead to this Friday for H.E.R., whose debut album ‘Back of my Mind’ will finally be unleashed.
Bucking the established trends attached to launching a new act, the immensely gifted star (who had been signed and honing her talent since her teens) built her buzz by way of EPs.
It proved a wise approach because it netted her multiple GRAMMYs, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar. All before her full-length project arrived.
With so much success already tallied, excitement is sky-high for her incoming musical chapter.
Prior to its release, the set’s tracklist has been unveiled.
The rapper has unleashed his brand new single ‘LUMBERJACK,’ which premiered alongside its Wolf Haley-directed video.
A colorful affair, the characteristically quirky clip serves as the premiere offering from the follow-up to Tyler’s 2019 album ‘Igor’ – which nabbed him the GRAMMY Award for Best Rap Album.
With the Oscar buzz surrounding Aretha Franklin biopic ‘Respect’ already at high volume, lead Jennifer Hudson just upped the ante with the announcement of on original song.
When the line-up for new show ‘BET Presents The Encore’ was unveiled, one of the names most buzzed-about was Kiely Williams.
The 3LW star may have hung up her mic many moons ago, but she’s maintained an arguable omnipresence in the mediascape by way of headlines involving her past bandmates and that “broken promithes” meme.
Williams also notably appeared in the highly viral clip from the show’s unaired pilot episode. Taped many years ago, it saw her lock horns with momentary Destiny’s Child member Farrah Franklin. Upon its unearthing last year, the clip created an immediate hunger for more, leading to the show eventually landing at BET.
Armed with this momentum, she makes clear that she still has a lot to offer the music industry…albeit with a twist.
Viewers of the show will have seen that while castmates such as Aubrey O’Day, Shamari DeVoe, and Nivea are uniting to form a supergroup, Williams elected to take a different role – creative director.
With that decision already causing friction (the type that makes for TV gold), That Grape Juice‘s Chet Kincaid caught up with Williams and Pamela Long of Total to discuss the show and more.
During the candid chat, the 34-year-old explained that she found the public scrutiny hard and insisted that she is “memed and mocked for a lisp I don’t have.”
She also expanded on her pivot into creative direction and why it’s her true calling.
Watch above and be sure to tune into ‘BET Presents The Encore’ Wednesdays at 10/9c on BET.
