Controversial entertainer Chris Brown is featured on the cover of the upcoming issue of VIBE Magazine. In the release, the singer gives an interview where he discusses several issues including his new album and, of course, ‘the incident’ involving ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Brown’s new LP, ‘Graffiti’, which was first exclusively reviewed here on That Grape Juice, hits stores on December 8th.

This cover is sure to stir up a slew of controversy! However, regarding the question of whether or not people are “still down” with Brown, it’s clear that many would respond with a resounding “yes!” His album has thus far received generally favourable reviews from the critics and several predict that he will enjoy decent first week sales. Now it’s time to see if consumers are willing to support his project. You can peep the alternate cover of the issue featuring rapper Drake below:

Chris Brown Graffiti Review

After a tumultuous year, spurred on by ‘the incident’ which reverberated around the world, R&B star Chris Brown is back and looking to reassert his place at the top with new LP ‘Graffiti’ (due December 7th in the UK // December 8th US). With the world’s glaring eyes fixated on the performance of the project, it’d be hard to deny that this is the most important record the 20 year old will ever release. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the album, Brown’s 3rd, boasts production from some the industry’s most renowned hit-makers and artists alike.

The question on the lips of many, though, is: Does ‘Graffiti’ do enough to redeem Brown in the court of public opinion? I vote ‘Yes!’, albeit cautiously…

R&B star Chris Brown has released the cover art (as seen above) for the 2-disc Deluxe Edition of his highly anticipated 3rd studio album, ‘Graffiti’. The first single from the project, ‘I Can Transform Ya’ (featuring the pervasive Lil Wayne), has thus far peaked at #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #16 on the Hip-Hop/R&B charts. The album is slated for released on December 8th, which also happens to be the scheduled release date of Usher’s new album, tentatively entitled ‘Raymond vs. Raymond’. Below is the official track listing of ‘Graffiti’:

1. I Can Transform Ya featuring Lil Wayne & Swizz Beatz

2. Sing Like Me

3. Crawl

4. So Cold

5. What I Do featuring Plies

6. Famous Girl

7. Take My Time featuring Tank

8. I.Y.A.

9. Pass Out featuring Eva Simons

10. Wait Featuring Trey Songz & Game

11. Lucky Me

12. Fallin Down

13. I’ll Go

The artwork is basically the same with very little dissimilarity from the original other than the gold  tint. It baffles me that most people dislike the cover. Is the fact that he is wearing spandex more important than the concept of the design?

Regarding the track listing, I must admit that I am excited to hear all of the material. If ‘I Can Transform Ya’ and ‘Crawl’ are any indication of what the album will sound like, then I sense this is going to be his most musically, lyrically and vocally sound production to date. My only concern is that he is going to be singing a song – ‘Take My Time’ – with Tank. No offense to Chris but I bet it was difficult for Tank to retrain his vocals in an effort not to out-sing Breezy on his own track. Either way, I expect great things from this album.

Tidbit: Is it just me or has everyone forgotten that Usher is even releasing a record this year?

Chris Brown & Rihanna Drama Update
Peep the pic above of Chris Brown and Rihanna leaving Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy party on Saturday, just minutes before the drama unfolded…
It appears the ‘squeaky-clean’ image Brown and his handlers have carved out for him since he burst onto the scene 4 years ago is disappearing with much swiftness as a result of the serious nature of the assault charge levelled against him. It’s now being reported Wrigley have dropped him due to this all:
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Chewing gum makers Wrigley on Monday suspended a commercial featuring Chris Brown after the popular R&B singer was arrested on suspicion of attacking a woman widely reported to be his singer girlfriend Rihanna.
The clean-cut Brown, 19, one of the fastest-rising stars of the last two years, was free on $50,000 bail, a day after the couple hurriedly canceled separate performances at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
Both the Brown and Rihanna camps were silent on Monday. Police sources told the Los Angeles Times and celebrity Web site TMZ.com that the woman who reported she had been attacked by Brown in the early hours of Sunday was 20-year-old Rihanna, singer of hits “Umbrella” and “Disturbia.”
Wrigley said in a statement it was “concerned by the serious allegations” made against Brown, who was booked by police on suspicion of making a felony criminal threat.
The company said that while Brown should be afforded due legal process “we have made the decision to suspend the current advertising featuring Brown…until the matter is resolved.”
Brown, who was competing against Rihanna in a Grammy category, was a spokesman for Doublemint gum and his hit song “Forever” was part of that advertising campaign. {Source}
There’s no doubt the sudden uncharacteristic nature of this all has rocked the industry. I’m still very keen to hear the specifics of the case, before passing full judgement. I guess in time we’ll have the answers…

A new Rihanna cut, featuring boyfriend Chris Brown, surfaced today. Believed to be lifted from the ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’ soundtrack – a movie in which they both make cameos – the Polo Da Don produced track isn’t bad at all. Granted I cannot understand what Ms. Fenty is ‘singing’ on the chorus and Chris Brown’s ‘rap’ sounding a lil’ Vanilla Ice, the beat goes hard and Rihanna rides the verses well. Listening to this actually has me really interested to see what she’ll be serving up on her oh-so-important new album (the one in which she proves her current success isn’t a fluke).

Chris Brown UpdateIt seems teen star Chris Brown is unstoppable at the moment. Check out this press release via his publicists:

Late last month, Pop/R&B sensation Chris Brown received 10 Teen Choice Nominations –the most nods of any Teen Choice Awards nominee. The nominated categories are as follows:

*Choice Male Hottie
*Choice Music: Male Artist
*Choice Music: R&B Artist
*Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon-Male
*Choice Music: R&B Track “Forever”
*Choice Music: Single “With You”
*Choice Music: Hookup (Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown “No Air”)

*Choice Music: Hookup (Lil Mama featuring Chris Brown and T-Pain “Shawty Get Loose”)
*Choice Music: Rap/Hip-Hop Track (Lil Mama featuring Chris Brown and T-Pain “Shawty Get Loose”)

Not content to rest on his laurels as an all-around consummate performer, singer, dancer and actor, the 19-year old Tappahannock, VA native further demonstrates his talent as a songwriter; he recently penned Rihanna’s hit new single “Disturbia” with his writing team Graffiti Artiztz. The single is rising the charts, and currently rests at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.

News of the nominations comes as Brown’s newest hit song, “Forever” rises on music and video charts — peaking at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Over the past few months, Chris Brown has remained a fixture on the Top 5 songs charts (including his smoldering duet with labelmate Jordin Sparks — “No Air”) and has sold over 1.5 million albums and over 4 million digital songs with “”Forever,” “With You,” “Kiss Kiss” and “Take You Down.”

More power to him…

Chris Brown - 'Picture Perfect' Is New Single It has been confirmed that teen R&B star Chris Brown is to release ‘Picture Perfect’ as the next single from his current album ‘Exclusive’. Though I think the will.i.am produced track is pretty solid, I’m kinda baffled as to why he/the label are overlooking better tracks as singles such as ‘You’. Still, I’m sure Chris’ CD will continue to shift units well into the year; since dropping ‘Exclusive’ back in November, the album has sold through a very impressive 1,121,800 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. Anyway, you can check out the single – of which a remix featuring Bow Wow and Hurricane Chris will debut soon – below. {Source}

R&B star Chris Brown features in the October issue of VIBE magazine. In the interview, Brown (attempts) to explain his way with the ladies:

“I’ve had girlfriends, but it’s different. Not jump-offs! Like, you don’t be like, ‘That’s my girl,’ but you know when you hang with her, it’s like … friends with benefits. If I’m singling out one girl, think about all the other girls who are falling in love with me in that club. What they gon’ think? So it’s like, I have a relationship with every girl. It’s like every girl is my girlfriend.”
{Source}

Having tried to make sense of what he said, the only thing I did understand was that it sounded like nonsense. I’m not too sure Chris knew what he meant either lol. With all this talk of ‘friends with benefits’, it’s hard to think that the boy only just turned 18. SMH…

In other Chris Brown news, a video for the remix of his current single ‘Wall to Wall’ featuring Jadakiss premiered last night:

Though the song has grown on me a little, it’s still sub-par as – is this video. I don’t know why his label are beating a dead horse; the song is bonafide flop – peaking at #79 on the Billboard Hot 100.

What do you think of his comments / video?
With the release of Chris Brown’s sophomore CD ‘Exclusive’ rapidly approaching (August 28th), yet another track from the set has surfaced. Featuring T-Pain, ‘Kiss Kiss’ is an ‘ok’ mid-tempo track -although it sounds kinda repetitive. Neither Chris or T-Pain take the track anywhere either. I’ve felt a lot Chris’ new material to be real hit and miss; if he’s to avoid the ‘sophomore slump’ the album really needs to deliver – which I’m not sure if it will.
