Madonna‘s long been regarded as the most successful female recording artist in history thanks not only to her reported 300+ million in record sales, but also a nearly unrivaled 36-year run on the Billboard charts – namely the Hot 100.
Granted, her reigns atop the Billboard 200 with 9 of her 14 studio albums are nothing to shake a stick at (placing her second among women for most career chart-toppers as Barbra Streisand leads with 11), the Queen of Pop’s truest crowning glory has come with the strides she’s made on the singles chart. With 38 top 10 hits (12 of them hitting #1), she – as of time reported – sits in history books for having the most placements on the chart’s topmost dectet. Other notable accomplishments include first female artist in history to have 6 (or more) #1 singles, most consecutive top 5 singles of any artist, and she was once listed as the artist who took the shortest time to amass 20 top 10 singles (a feat later surpassed by Rihanna as we reported here).
At present, Madge stands to see another member of the new school – Taylor Swift – break another of her longstanding records: most top 20 singles of all time (among females). Details inside:
‘Cold War’ singer Janelle Monae was undoubtedly feeling the heat after she took to Twitter to suggest putting up voting booths at Popeyes Chicken locations across America to lure people into registering.
The comment was her reaction to the viral craze that’s swept social media in favor of the fast food chain’s recently unveiled chicken sandwich – a phenomenon that’s seen people storm their local franchise to sample the deep fried bird and record their reactions for Twitter, Facebook, and more. Creating long lines, filmed fights, and more in its wake, the high demand – which reportedly saw Popeyes rake in a whopping $25M as a result of the increased publicity – led to a nationwide outage (causing outrage among fans of the sandwich).
Some of that outrage has been taken out on Monae after she was inspired by a North Carolinian teen who gained national attention for encouraging people to register to vote while they waited in the notoriously long lines for their tasty feasts.
“I decided to register people to vote after I saw there was a lack of young people politically involved. I believe that it is our duty to vote as American citizens and it would be wrong not to exercise our political voice,” he told the press.
However, after the Grammy-nominee echoed his sentiment her slamming was so intense she had to backtrack. Taking to Twitter to apologize, look below if you missed any of the action:
Issa Rae‘s struck comedy gold once again with the good folks over at HBO as new reports have confirmed the hilarious series ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show’ – which just premiered on August 2nd – has already been renewed for a sophomore season.

After suffering the ‘L’ that was 2017’s ‘Witness,’ Pop singer Katy Perry‘s time away from the music scene – albeit brief – has served as a recharge of sorts for the songstress as well as Pop music lovers, a feat evidenced by the ongoing successes of her 2019 singles ‘Never Really Over’ and its Charlie Puth-produced follow-up, ‘Small Talk.’
While the former gave the Grammy-nominee her first top 20 hit on the Hot 100 in over 2 years (as we reported here), the latter – released August 9 – is just heating up at radio and streaming. Before its debut at #81 on this week’s main singles chart, Perry endured a bit of controversy after being subjected to accusations of plagiarism when fans of New Zealand Pop duo Broods complained ‘Talk’s promotional vertical music video was strikingly similar to the artwork for the their new album.
Now, with the chatter from that behind her, Katy’s ready to unleash the official accompanying visual of her next soon-to-be-hit. Set for an August 30 premiere, the singer invited her fans – affectionately called #KatyCats – behind the scenes to witness the planning behind the music video’s dog-heavy concept treatment. Not even a collection of stage-blazing performances from the likes of Missy Elliott, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Normani, and Taylor Swift were enough to help the MTV VMAs drum up an increase in viewership. After netting their worst ratings ever with the 2018 showing (click here for details), the hopes were probably a bit higher for the 2019 edition.
Preliminary figures revealed after its first airing offered a bleak outlook, one confirmed by newly furnished final figures that indicate this year’s take on the annual awards show were their lowest in history.
But, it’s not all bad news. Click below to see what we mean:
Travis Scott‘s fans believe that he is far more deserving of the Grammy’s love and adoration than Cardi B is.
Watching this @trvisXX documentary making me realize how the hell did Cardi B when Grammy rap album of the year over him?? I don’t know one person who could say with a straight face that her album is better, let alone the other nominees like Swimming, Daytona or Victory Lap ??♂️

August 2019 has given Christina Aguilera much to celebrate.
For, just days before commemorating the 20th anniversary of the release of her self-titled debut album (August 24), Xtina was on hand at the kick-off ceremony for the D23 Expo (the Disney fan convention). There, the 38-year-old was among a dozen famous faces honored with the prestigious ‘Disney Legend’ award – an esteemed honor bestowed to individuals who have ‘made remarkable contributions to the Disney legacy.’ Joining the ranks of Robert Downey, Jr., Robin Roberts, and more, fans familiar with Aguilera’s career trajectory know her longstanding history with Mickey Mouse as she got her start as a Mouseketeer kid on ‘The All New Mickey Mouse Club’ in the early 1990s before jump-starting her recording career with 1998’s ‘Reflection’ (the theme song from the animated feature film, ‘Mulan’).
In addition to accepting the honor as a Disney legend – an accomplishment she bragged was ‘better than winning a Grammy’ – the five-time Grammy winner blessed the audience with a stirring live performance of the song that started it all.
