Beyond its domination of the movie box office (racking up over $1 billion globally as we reported here), the live action remake of ‘The Lion King’ is being celebrated for its contributions to the music realm as well. In addition to cracking the top 15 of the Billboard 200 with its official soundtrack, Pop superstar Beyonce – who stars as ‘Nala’ in the film – debuted at #2 on the same chart with her new project, ‘The Gift’ (which was inspired by the film).
Following the re-entry of 2016’s ‘Lemonade’ and her live album, ‘Homecoming,’ ‘The Gift’ came as her third trip to the top 10 of the tally this year alone. And, while its lead single – the anthemic ‘Spirit’ – sent fans soaring into a frenzy upon the release of its colorful, African-influenced music video, its roar may be proving bigger than its bite.
