justin bieber vevo record history

Much like fellow chart-topper Rihanna, the last year has seen Justin Bieber‘s name and the phrase “breaks (or sets) the record for…” in print seemingly every other week.

In addition to being the youngest person to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the record for most Hot 100 entries in a single week, and only God knows what else, now Bieber can lay claim to yet another title in history books thanks to his Beliebers.

VEVO has the news:

Welcome to Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature carved out to take our readers on a journey back to TV and Film’s glorious past.

Before Disney made stars out of Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, the actress Melissa Joan Hart stood tall as one of television’s most sought after players.

Following her successful run on Nickelodeon’s ‘Clarissa Explains It All‘, the thespian was called on to lead a TV movie named ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch.’

Produced by Viacom, the ‘Bewitched’-inspired series told the tale of a girl named Sabrina who learns that she is a witch on her sixteen birthday and moves in with her aunts and their talking cat Salem who guide her as she juggles school, romance and all the weird and wonderful of magic has to throw at her.

Its run came to an end of April 24th 2003, but not before pulling in ratings that made it one of the highest-rated shows in television (its premiere picked up 17 million viewers) and cement itself in the memories of many a 90s baby.

Ready to take a walk down memory lane?

adele 2015 5 million tgj

That Adele reign simply will not let up!

On the Hot 100, the diva’s blockbuster comeback single, ‘Hello,’ greets its 6th consecutive week on the perch.  Fending off strong competition from the likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, and more, managed to outdo all of the aforementioned tunes on streaming, radio, and download tallies.  Showing strong signs of doing the same again next week, ‘Hello’s performance is only matched by that of its parent album, ’25.’

With another 500,000 sold in its third week (with some reports indicating that number will be closer to 650k), the project is #1 again – besting projected new entries by Coldplay (200,000), G-Eazy (125,000), Rick Ross (60,000), and more.  These figures will be on next week’s refreshed chart.

To date, ’25’ has sold over 5 million copies.  And, at the rate it is moving units, industry analysts predict the album – released in November 2015 – will end the year with at least 7 million sold…

Mariah Carey‘s 2014 effort ‘Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse’ may have scored major points on a critical front, yet it failed replicate said success where sales were concerned. Indeed, the LP (though one of our favorites of her 00’s releases) saw Mimi sweep up her lowest opening week digits to date.

Today, the star’s camp seek to revive interest in her career with a Las Vegas stint and lucrative partnerships with brands such as MAC and Game of War.’ The goal? To restore the commercial clout she’d possessed during her heyday – or perhaps more realistically following chart-wowing ‘Emancipation.’

Therefore, as she pens the new chapter of her personal  and professional life, TGJ throws on its A&R hat to share what we feel would work best for the vocal butterfly before she drops new cuts.

Will you like what we have to say?

Find out after the jump….
