For those who listened to Azealia Banks’Fantasea’ the set served as one of the most innovative bodies of work to be built by an artist from this generation’s Pop class.

Alas, it seems that Hip Hop’s reigning Queen Nicki Minaj isn’t impressed by Banks’ aquatic tales of love, life and lust.

How she may have let her fans know this?

With their collective star on the rise after the chart domination of songs ‘Work From Home’ and more, Fifth Harmony was well on their way to filling the “girl group” void left in the industry by the likes of Destiny’s Child and Danity Kane.

Unfortunately, much like the latter, before their star could reach its highest heights, the group was dealt a crushing blow by the announcement of the departure of one of its members.  In 5H’s case, it’s Camila Cabello.

Coming just a day after hits that members Normani Kordei and Ally Brooke are readying solo offerings (read more on that here), tuck in below to read the shocking announcement:

An ever festive Mariah Carey continues to spread Christmas cheer across TV land with her latest stop being inside Andy Cohen‘s clubhouse on Bravo’s ‘Watch What Happens Live.’

There, per usual, the shady chanteuse let loose a number of watch-worthy moments as she dished on her thoughts of known nemeses Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, and Ariana Grande.  Sharing her thoughts on the trio (whom she has been pitted against in one way or the other over her career) via an interesting game titled ‘Does She Know Her?,’ Mimi certainly invoked a chuckle or two here at TGJ HQ with her “nice nasty” answers.

Also dishing on her love life (including recent breakup), recent pow wow with good girl friend Beyonce, and even that shady tweet from Demi Lovato, tuck in below for some laughs courtesy of the pop icon:

2016 saw ‘The Good Wife’ bow out in fittingly dramatic fashion.

And thankfully for fans missing the hit legal drama, the story continues with CBS‘ official spin-off ‘The Good Fight.’

Set to debut in February, the series focusses on popular character Dianne Lockhart (played stellarly by Christine Baranski).

Picking up a year after the events of May’s curtain call, the show sees Diane forced to start over at one of Chicago’s top law firms after a huge financial scam wiped out her entire savings.

She joins fellow ‘Good Wife’er Lucca Quinn (played by Cush Jumbo) at the company and embarks on a whole new rollercoaster.

WGN America’s lauded drama ‘Underground’ sets its eyes on a return in 2017.

Season 2 of the period drama promises to feature more action, twists, and guest stars, including the show’s executive producer John Legend who will play the role of abolitionist Frederick Douglas.

In its inaugural season finale, we learned the imperfect fate of the series central characters.

After a staged robbery, Noah was seized back into captivity, while Rosalee, Boo, and Cato escaped. Apart from the Macon 7, the queen of cunning, Ernestine was sold after disguising Tom Macon’s death as a suicide. The curtains close as a renewed Rosalee befriends Harriet Tubman.

What does season 2 have in store? Mosey below to see the ‘Underground’ teaser. (more…)

Today we travel back to a time when a certain siren was shedding shackles and coming out of her shell.

Christina Aguilera‘s feminist anthem ‘Can’t Hold Us Down’ is this week’s From The Vault pick.

Helmed by Scott Storch and penned by the producer alongside Xtina and Matt Morris, ‘Can’t Hold Us’ saw the singer encourage women the world over to stand together in a bid for respect from the opposite sex.

The fiery track reunited Aguilera with ‘Lady Marmalade’ collaborator Lil Kim and was the 4th single serviced from her sophomore set ‘Stripped.’

Grammy nominated, the song peaked at #12 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #6 in the UK and #5 in Australia; it also reached the Top 20 of many other European countries.

***************

David Lachapelle – who devised the diva’s  ‘Dirrty’ video – directed the 80’s inspired visual . Its theme? A street battle of the sexes, which erupts after a sun-kissed, dark-haired Xtina  is groped by a hopeful suitor.

For all its good intent, the video was criticized for being an argued example of “cultural appropriation.” Still, that hasn’t stopped it from amassing views on VEVO and spins on TV channels.

***************

Another year ends and still no signs of new new music from Christina.

Hopefully, all this waiting means the belter is baking something as inspired and layered as ‘Stripped’ and ‘Back To Basics.’

In the meantime, we’ll keep blasting ‘Can’t Hold Us Down’ and the rest of Aguilera’s back catalogue.
