rihanna anti thatgrapejuice billboard 200

‘Cheers’ singer Rihanna has yet another accomplishment to toast to this week.

For, as if working up a 4th week at #1 on the Hot 100 and seeing select dates from her much talked about ‘Anti’ tour reach sold out status wasn’t enough, now she’s learned she’s returned to the top of the Billboard 200 as well.

Collecting its second non-consecutive week atop the tally, the project – which has consistently been in the top 5 since its debut (barring its #27 premiere) – moved right on past competitors Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, and more to regain ownership of the #1 title.  Narrowly beating Adele‘s ’25’ for the prize, Rih’s second #1 album (8th overall) continues to prove the naysayers wrong with its staying power and is her first album to nab more than one week at the top.

Tuck in below to see how many units the Bajan beauty moved:

With Gwen Stefani set to top the charts with her third studio album, this week’s From The Vault pick salutes a  Gwen gem from her first LP.

Cue ‘Cool’ from ‘Love.Angel.Music.Baby.’

Serviced as the fourth cut from the blockbuster project, the New Wave inspired track was released in 2005.

Produced by Nellee Hooper and Dallas Austin, the latter also co-wrote the song with Stefani.

While ‘Cool’ only reached Top 40 status overseas, was a hit in the US peaking at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #9 on the Pop tally.

The lyrics pull from real life in its centring on Gwen’s relationship with No Doubt-bandmate and former-bae Tony Kanal and how (after the ups and the challenges of life) they’ve remained more than colleagues but good friends too.

Sophie Muller helmed the video, which was shot in Lake Como, Italy and features the singer playing opposite Spanish actor Daniel Gonzàlez — and Erin Lokitz… who happens to be Kanal’s girlfriend.

It plays like a literal, yet creative take on the song’s resonating lyrics.

*************

After a series of missteps, Team Gwen finally seem to have things in check and we couldn’t be happier. For, Ms Stefani is among the few artists who rose to prominence during the golden age of the 90s but somehow still possess all that is “required” to be successful in todays climate.

Hopefully the next chapter of her solo run is as colorful, captivating and game-changing as her first swing of the bat.

As reported here, ‘To Pimp A Butterfly’ beau Kendrick Lamar soared to the top of charts with his unexpected release ‘untitled unmastered’ this week, dethroning last week’s spot-holder’s 1975s.

The Brit band, who dropped completely out of the top 25 this week, may have bested the likes of Adele, Rihanna, and Justin Bieber last week, but they have nothing on the trio’s staying power.  In fact, Addy and Biebs have not once left the Billboard 200’s top 5 since their albums, ’25’ and ‘Purpose,’ were respectively released in November 2015.Barring the #27 debut of her 8th outing ‘Anti,’ Grammy winning singer Rihanna can boast the same.

Yet, while we’ve already reported next week’s refreshed chart will see yet another champion (Gwen Stefani), we can say with fair certainty that Rih, Biebs, and Addy will be adding yet another top 5 run to their already impressive tallies.

Until then, get into this week’s album chart check blow:

rihanna thatgrapejuice 4th week #1

That Rihanna reign just won’t let up.

After zooming to the top of charts in no time with her latest hit ‘Work,’ the Bajan beauty continues to smile down on the competition from the Hot 100’s perch.  Clocking her 4th week at the top, the island bop comes as yet another stinging reminder to detractors who have slammed the commercial performance of the work found on her 8th opus, ‘Anti,’ as it – along with its parent album – continue to enjoy success on their respective charting platforms.

Elsewhere, while fans of Fifth Harmony thought their newest single, ‘Work From Home,’ would find a home in the top 10 this week after its impressive debut last week, it appears they thought wrong.

Find out where 5H, Rih, and all of your other favorite stars from today landed on the latest Hot 100 update:

Welcome to another edition of ‘Retro Rewind‘, the TGJ original feature launched to celebrate TV and Film’s glorious past.

Today, our journey takes us to 1997. Our destination? ‘B*A*P*S’, the New Line Cinema movie starring Halle Berry.

The movie tells the tale of two young women who become ‘Black American Princesses’ after auditioning for a music video in Los Angeles to raise money for the hair salon/soul food spot they hope to create.

It isn’t long before their trip to the West Coast sees them thrown into a sinister plot to milk a millionaire’s fortune.

Unfortunately, it failed to recoup its 10 million dollar budget after its release (it picked up $7,338,229) but, as many will agree, worked wonders for Berry’s diverse filmography.
