Despite issuing an official statement to confirm his split with wife Crystal Smith (read more on that by clicking here), singer-songwriter Ne-Yo is looking to let his music do the talking for him.

Calling on help from ‘Cut It’ rapper O.T. Genasis, the Grammy winner cuts straight to the chase with his new song, ‘Pinky Ring.’  A Trap-tinged R&B tune, Ne-Yo wails:

“She gave back the wedding ring / I turned it to a pinky ring,” he sings. “I do not feel bad / I gave her everything / Now it’s on to better things.”

Thanks to the successful inaugural season of Youtube Premium series, ‘Step Up: High Water,’ the Hip Hop dance show was green lit for a season 2 (due for a March 20 premiere).  Ahead of its return, Grammy-winning singer Ne-Y0 – who stars as “Sage” on the show – has lent his talent to its accompanying soundtrack with three high energy tunes.

The first, titled ‘Genesis,’ has been tapped to kick off the highly anticipated collection.  A New Jack Swing-inspired affair, Ne-Yo recently took to our friends at Billboard to discuss the motivation behind the song’s creation:

“My inspiration for the song was my character Sage’s arc and going back to his beginnings. The music and feel that inspired him to choose music over the streets. He loses his way and has to go back to his roots to find it,” he said.

To herald its arrival, R&B’s reigning gentleman stopped by The Wendy Williams Show.

Sitting down with the former shock-jock, Mr Smith opened up about the project – which he deems a reflection of his journey to becoming who he is today.

Elsewhere, he expounded on family life – namely being married, his fourth child being due any day, and rumors surrounding his split with the mom of his oldest children Monyetta Shaw.

Indeed, there was a lot of talk at the time of him “allegedly” asking  to get her tubes tied only to dump her days later.

Explaining the concept of the track, he said:

“A lot of women had to suffer heartache they didn’t deserve in order for me to become the man I am. I can never undo my wrongs but at the very least I can say I’m sorry. Check out my new joint “Apology.”

There was once a musical landscape that saw Grammy-winning crooner Ne-Yo (born Shaffer Smith) rule as king of the pen.  Easily the most in-demand songwriter at the onset of his career and noughties overall, the R&B star was likened to the legendary Smokey Robinson for his ability to wield what seemed like unstoppable back to back hits (for stars of a spectrum of genres).  As the lay of the land shifted over the last few years, so did the demand – an occurrence Smith exclusively tells That Grape Juice he is all too well aware.

After a bit of a break saw his last album, 2015’s ‘Non-Fiction,’ pencil in his lowest first week sales to date (click here to read more), the singer found himself on the same uphill climb his coveted pen once helped others out of.  But, from where he stands with the success of a breakout NBC dance show, ‘World of Dance,’ and the all around critical acclaim surrounding the cuts lifted from his June 8th-due new album, ‘Good Man,’ the challenge is welcomed!

Ne-Yo is back! And this time it’s with the title track of his new album ‘Good Man.’

Though renown for his own production gravitas, the R&B aficionado borrows D’Angelo‘s ‘How Does It Feel’ as the foundation for the single.

Produced by DJ Camper, the track sees the soulful crooner serenade his lover with all the ways he wants to be the model person for her.

And he stresses that this is a thread that is sewn throughout his LP:

“This album focuses on the journey of what it is to be a good man: a good man to your spouse, a good brother to your brother, a good person to the world.

I am not proclaiming to be perfect. A Good Man makes mistakes, learns from those mistakes, therefore to not then repeat those mistakes. Being a A Good Man is a journey.”

Ne-Yo is back.

The R&B crooner has unwrapped the video for ‘Another Love Song’ – the lead single from his seventh studio album ‘Good Man.’

Ne-Yo returned to the spotlight this week with a new single and a new TV show.

Wasting no time, the 37-year-old has hit the promotional pavement – making a notable stop at The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1.

Ever candid, R&B’s leading gentleman opened up about his two-year hiatus from music, new album ‘Good Man,’ and ageing in a youth-obsessed industry.

Mr Smith was also quizzed about Tank‘s much-talked about performance at DC Pride and was asked squarely whether he’d have performed too. His answer was definitely insightful.

Peep the chit-chat below…

Ne-Yo always brings great conversation and makes for refreshing interviewee given how much he isn’t governed by the boring bravado that many of his peers imprison themselves in. Put simply, this was a great interview.

We’re looking forward to ‘Good Man.’ Are you?

Ne-Yo is officially back!

After tiding fans over with loose cuts after the release of his 2015 LP, ‘Non-Fiction,’ the R&B crooner tapped producers Dr. Luke and Cirkut to help craft the official kickoff to his yet-titled 7th album.

An upbeat summer jam titled ‘Another Love Song,’ the cut – released by Motown Records and Ne-Yo’s Compound Entertainment – has a timely release as it coincides with the premiere of NBC’s reality dance competition ‘World of Dance’ (which features Ne-Yo, Jennifer Lopez, and Derek Hough as judges).
