National Television Awards 2010 - Winners Boards

The name ‘Selma’ is ringing many bells in 2015.

Indeed, despite losing out on the ‘Best Picture’ Academy Award this year for the 2014 Ava Duvernay historical film developed in its honor, the film remains a highly recommended watch by fans and critics.  A timely affair as March 7th, 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the city’s infamous ‘Bloody Sunday,’ the movie kicked off what is set to be a number of tributes in homage to the Alabama town’s mark on history.

The most notable acknowledgements will come via this weekend’s 40+ events commemorating the march on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, including an all-star concert featuring the likes of T.I., Tamar Braxton, Anthony Hamilton, Rick Ross, and Fantasia as well as appearances from President Barack ObamaMary J. Blige and Bono of U2.  And, while fans of ‘Do What U Want‘ co-stars Lady Gaga & R. Kelly were disappointed to find out the duo will not be performing (as previously reported), some are expressing even deeper disappointment that ‘Ice Ice Baby’ star Vanilla Ice has been billed as a featured performer.

He may have just faced legal trouble for home invasion and burglary charges, but now it seems the former hitmaker is being accused of stealing another piece of black culture something else:

Bruno Mars’ megahit ‘Uptown Funk‘ seems to have no intention on going downtown Billboard Hot 100 avenue as it reigns for a 9th consecutive week.

The feat not only gives Mars’ his longest running reign on the chart’s perch, but also pencils him in history books into an exclusive club of hitmakers to ever lead the Hot 100 and Official UK Singles chart for at least 7 weeks (Bryan Adams“(Everything I Do) I Do It for You,” 1991; Whitney Houston‘s “I Will Always Love You,” 1992-93; and Rihanna‘s “Umbrella,” featuring Jay Z, 2007 complete the quartet).

Elsewhere in the top 10, the only new faces seen are those of serial pop hitmakers Pitbull & Ne-Y0 with their hit ‘The Time of Our Lives,’ marking the latter’s first appearance on the Hot 100 in over 2 years!  See where they landed as well as the other movement on the single’s chart below:

Tinashe is playing no games with her plan for superstardom.

The singer has unwrapped the video for ‘Bated Breath’ from her debut album ‘Aquarius’ and revealed that she financed it herself.

Speaking to W about the six hour shoot, the 22-year-old said:

“It wasn’t a big production or anything.

The label didn’t finance the video, so she decided to take things into her own hands. “I don’t like to sit around waiting for people to do things for me. So when I know my label’s not going to produce music videos, I’ll either make them myself or I’ll find people that I think are cool and reach out to them directly. I’m like, ‘F*ck it. I’ll just do it.’”

The singer describes the Stephen Garnett visual, which was shot in the Mojave Desert, as “grungier” than past efforts.
