With the news of Akon teaming up with Michael Jackson now over a year old, today a sample of the collaborative efforts surfaced in the form of ‘Hold My Hand’. Though it’s uncertain whose project exactly the track is meant for, word has it the song will feature on Akon’s forthcoming LP. Check it out {Thanks Leonard & Patrick!}:

The cut is familiar territory for Michael – from both his and Akon’s vocal arrangements right down to the subject matter; which I guess makes it accessible for fans of that aspect of his music. Saying that, I’m kinda on the fence about this one. Despite the supposedly ‘new’ MJ material floating around, this is the first legitimate taste of post-‘Invincible’ MJ material and it doesn’t really deliver the ‘umph’ I would have hoped for. Still, this could be a grower.

Hit or Miss?

In part 2 of Rap-Up.com’s interview with Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins, the hit-maker shed light on new projects from Britney Spears and R&B songstress Brandy:

Both albums are definitely highly anticipated. So it’ll be interesting to see if they deliver the goods.

Whose album are you looking forward to most: Britney or Brandy?

Ne-Yo's 'Closer' Hits #1R&B star Ne-Yo has unseated Coldplay on the Official UK Singles Chart this week with his single ‘Closer’. Having already secured the #2 position the week prior on download sales alone, the song’s charting stands as the singer’s second UK #1 – the first being 2006’s ‘So Sick’.
‘Closer’ has definitely grown on me since my initial listen; a much deserved charting, I must say.

Despite the controversy surrounding Jay-Z being billed as the headliner at the largely ‘Rock’ Glastonbury festival, the renown rapper silenced naysayers by delivering a show-stopping set. Inclusive were a tongue-in-cheek opening of Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ – which took aim at group member Noel Gallager’s remark that “I’m not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong”, as well as a remix of Estelle’s ‘American Boy’. Check it out:

Ms. Jigga was also in attendance to support her husband…

Peep this new photoshoot of R&B star Kelly Rowland. The dress the ‘Like This’ singer donned is an ensemble by London based designer Kosibah. She looks great.

In other Kelly news, it has been confirmed that she will be hitting the stage at T4 On The Beach here in the UK (Weston Super Mare) on July 20th. The event, which Ne-Yo will also be performing at, will air live on Channel 4.

During her set at the Glastonbury 2008 festival here in the UK yesterday, train-wreck Amy Winehouse elbowed a concert goer in the face, after the reportedly having her hair pulled by the victim. Check out the clip below:

Amy, Amy Amy…

There’s more though; the troubled star also took a moment to call out rapper Kanye West – randomly labelling him a ‘cunt’ to the 90, 000 strong crowd during her performance of ‘Some Unholy War’. Check out the audio via World Star Hip-Hop below:

Kanye released a response via his official blog today, simply remarking “Amy Winehouse hates me!!! Now I’ve really made it!!! LOL!!!!”

For Amy I really have no words…

Rihanna and Maroon 5 performed their new single ‘If I Never See Your Face Again’ on MTV’s new show FN’MTV this week. Check out their performance below:

Though I’m no fan of Rihanna (I’m not a supporter of mediocrity), I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t an impressive performance. For the first time in…well…ever, Rihanna gave a an energized performance and turned in a pretty decent vocal showing too. Good stuff.

It appears the folk over at Bad Boy finally decided to hook Day26 up with a much needed new single in the form of ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’, the video for which premiered recently. Luckily for the guys, the song is strong enough to carry this, otherwise, run-of-the-mill clip. The Dawn (from Danity Kane) cameo was a nice touch, though. With the track being one of the strongest cuts from their self titled debut, here’s hoping it fares better than first single ‘Got Me Going’ which peaked at #79 on the Billboard Hot 100.

That Grape Juice To Interview Ne-YoThat Grape Juice has just received confirmation that we will be interviewing R&B star Ne-Yo later this week the week of July 7th.

With his single ‘Closer’ blowing up the charts, and a brand new album ‘Year of The Gentleman’ on the horizon’, the Grammy award winning singer/songwriter looks set to continue establishing himself as a music heavyweight.

Do you have any questions for Ne-Yo? As usual, drop them in the ‘comments’ section. Remember, only appropriate questions will be considered. Thanks guys 🙂
Mariah & Nick's Marriage On The Rocks?Reports are stating that Mariah Carey’s month and a half marriage to Nick Canon is already in danger of collapse:

Mariah Carey’s marriage won’t last more than six months, according to friends. The 38-year-old singer, who wed rapper Nick Cannon in April, is so demanding her new husband won’t be able to cope with her diva-like behavior.

One pal close to Mariah revealed 27-year-old Nick has become a source of ridicule for her friends and associates. The source told Life and Style Weekly magazine: “I give the marriage six months, tops. I can’t see it lasting.

Nick does whatever Mariah wants him to – he’s like her puppy. It seems like he spends more time in the stores with Mariah’s credit card than he does with Mariah herself. Mariah’s assistants and friends call him ‘Whipped Nick’ behind his back. They have little respect for him because he won’t stand up for himself.

However, a friend of Nick’s has vehemently denied the relationship is already in trouble, insisting Nick and Mariah are perfect for each other. The pal said: ‘Mariah needs someone to dote on her.’” {Source}

I must be the only person who still hasn’t swallowed the idea of the marriage to begin with; just so random. Anyway, I can’t say this wasn’t expected. I mean, come on now…

Our good friends over at Rap-up.com recently caught up with hit-maker Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins and quizzed him on his contribution to two of the year’s most anticipated releases – Beyonce and Ciara’s forthcoming albums. Check out the pretty insightful mini-interview below:

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I kinda felt a little short-changed with ‘B’ Day’, so I’m interested to see what Beyonce’s new record will be serving up; as with all her releases, a new Beyonce LP is an event in itself, so roll on November lol. More over though (at this point), after Tuesday’s night’s BET Awards, I’m amped for Ciara’s triple-disc ‘Fantasy Ride’; I really feel this will be her legit ‘evolution’ as opposed to to the ‘.5’ treatment her last album delivered.

So in view of that…

Whose album are you most looking forward to: Beyonce or Ciara?

Rock Witchu Tour Selling Well; Madonna Tidbit In news that will both please fans and silence some critics, the NY Daily News is reporting that Janet Jackson’s Live Nation ‘Rock Witchu Tour’ is performing well at the ticket box office:

Madonna’s ticket sales may have gotten off to a slow start, but Janet Jackson’s are doing fine, claims Live Nation, their concert-tour company.

Jackson is hitting the road to promote her latest CD, “Discipline”, which hasn’t fared well on the charts since its February release.

But hopes are still high for Jackson’s tour at Live Nation, where the chairman left last week after criticism that he was paying stars too much for the return. “She’s a tour record-breaker, having grossed more than $100 million in her career”.

So why is Jackson apparently selling well while only half of the seats at Madonna’s L.A. show have been sold? Her tickets are cheaper than Madonna’s, ranging from $46 to $126 at the Izod Center in New Jersey, for example, where Jackson performs Oct. 17. And unlike Madonna, who almost always favors her new material in shows, Jackson is willing to do the fan-favorite hits.

“We’re very happy with the ticket sales,” said a Live Nation spokesman. “She hasn’t complained about us. Thank God.”

It’s great to see Janet’s Live Nation ‘situation’ working out well at this early stage. There are murmurings that she may sign a similar ‘360’ deal similar to that of Jay-Z, Madonna etc with the company should the tour do well.
