Amerie At Converse One Star Party Amerie At Converse One Star Party
R&B songstress Amerie was snapped at the Converse One Star after party for the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. Looks like someone is flaunting her inner-Diva. She looks great.
In other Amerie news, the singer confirmed that she is working on her new album, the follow-up to last year’s ‘Because I Love It’. reliable word has it that she’s signed to a new (major) label. I’m definitely anticipating her new material; ‘Because I Love It’ still receives regular play from me.

Mariah Lines Up Third Single According to Mariah Daily, the third official single to be lifted from Mariah Carey’s ‘E=MC²’ will be ‘I’ll Be Loving You Long Time’. At a press conference held during the 38 year old’s promo blitz in Japan, she confirmed that the video will be shot in Hawaii later this week. Chris Applebaum, who directed Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ as well as Mary J’s ‘Just Fine’, will be directing the clip. {Source}

No surprises there, seeing as she performed the song at the MTV Japan VMA’s last week. ‘I’ll Be Loving You Long Time’ is one of my favourite tracks from the, otherwise, lackluster album, so I’m glad it’s getting the single treatment. Saying that, the likelihood of the smash-in-waiting ‘Migrate’ being as big as it could be is lessened with each other single release she places before it. At this rate, I really can’t see ‘E=MC²’ having as much longevity as ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’…it seems after ‘Touch My Body’ the project ceased to be handled properly. Yes, she’s everywhere, but the single release order is baffling to say the least.

No, this isn’t anything ‘Urban’ related, but I couldn’t resist. Peep this clip from Dr. Phil’s show that’s making the rounds on the net:

I actually squirmed a lil bit watching that. What my mother would have done to me if…SMH…

*Back to your regularly scheduled programming lol*

Burgeoning R&B star Solange performed her current single ‘I Decided’ on the Kansas City tour stop of her joint ‘The Art of Love Tour’ with Raheem DeVaughn and Christette Michelle on June 1st. Check out the performance below {Video credit: Bryan W. Thanks}:

I’m pleasantly surprised, she sounded even better than the record. Her vocals have most definitely matured, as has her stage presence. With the right promotion and single releases, Solange, IMO, really has the potential to be one of the biggest celebrity siblings to make a major impact in their own right – in the same way Janet emerged from Michael’s shadow more than 20 years ago. Great performance.

Solange’s video for ‘I Decided’ premieres tomorrow. Keep it locked on That Grape Juice for the goods…

More Ashanti Tidbits Ashanti will be everywhere this week promoting her latest offering ‘The Declaration’. Check out her promo schedule as per Ashanti Daily:

* Today – MTV TRL – 3.00pm: Interview

* Today – Virgin Megastore in Times Square – 6.00 PM: Live performance and CD signing.

*Today -Planet Hollywood, New York: -Hand-Printing Ceremony.

* Friday (June 6th) – Good Morning America Summer Concert Series – Performing a set; will be joined on stage by special guest Ja Rule to perform a medley of their hits.

With a slew of more promotional spots lined up in the coming weeks, including Jay Leno and a performance on TRL next Monday, it’s evident that her promo team are not playing.
I must say, though, that I’m kinda surprised by the Ja Rule guest spot for Good Morning America. It’s good to see that they’ve settled their differences now; should be an interesting watch.

Lil' Kim CFDA Fashion Awards Pint sized rapper Lil’ Kim made an appearance at the Council Of Fashion Designers Of America (CFDA) Awards in New York yesterday. This, hands-down, is the best Kim has looked years. Word has it she had her nose re-done again to get rid of them ridiculous dents in them. Whatever she’s done, it’s working a charm because she looks (and I never thought I’d say this again)…on point!

With Ashanti’s latest studio effort ‘The Declaration’ in US stores today, the singer stopped by BET’s 106 & Park to promote the project yesterday. A real interesting interview, I must say. She comes across very well. Ashanti really brought her ‘A Game’ this go round, so I’m hoping she does well with this record.

New Michelle Williams Promo ShotMichelle really is serving up the unexpected this go-round. This new promotional pic for her forthcoming LP ‘Unexpected’ (due August 12th) surfaced recently. She looks on-point!

Continuing along the promo trail in Japan, diva Mariah Carey performed her 1993 classic ‘Hero’ on the show Smap x Smap today. Check out the performance below:

Hmm. I guess she’s had worse performances this go-round, so this wasn’t that bad in comparison. Saying that, it really drove home the fact that her voice, as we knew and loved it, is done.

Mariah herself has stated in certain interviews that she has nodules on her vocal chords, which wear and tear over the years have strained. Surgery to repair the damage threatens her ability to hit her trademark whistle note. I say she go and has the surgery; for if she keeps turning in such sub-par performances (which seems to be the overwhelming majority these days), her legacy will be damaged way more than if she were to lose the whistle register. After all, her voice wasn’t only famed for being able to hit the odd high note – it’s power, purity and effortless delivery was what set her above her peers. In any case, it’s more than obvious that something needs to be done. {Thanks Stevie}

Leona Covers BlenderSinging sensation Leona Lewis appears on the July cover for Blender Magazine. Aside from the cover’s tag-line (‘Look out Mariah, Leona is Pop’s Next Megastar’), the magazine features this interesting quote from the UK born star:

“I don’t wear little miniskirts and low-cut tops. If you want to show your bits off, it’s up to you. When I was 18, I had a few glasses of Alcopop — they’re bubblegummy drinks with a bit of alcohol — and it was gross. I’ve tasted champagne, which is gross. And I tasted wine, which I don’t like.”

Hmm. Kudos to her for sticking to her guns if this is legit, but I’m wondering if this ‘wholesome’ image is a label construct. It’s funny they mention Mariah on the cover, as, for some reason, I can so see Leona having her ‘Mariah circa 1997 (‘Butterfly)’ break-free moment a few years down the line (sexed up image and the full works). I guess time will tell.

Nelly was joined on stage by Fergie to perform his current single ‘Party People’ over the weekend at the MTV Japan VMA’s. Check out the performance below:

Pretty decent, although the camera angles kinda made for a hard watch.
