The rumor mill swirled no shortage of reports that ‘Jealous’ star DJ Khaled was incensed at news his latest album, ‘Father of Asahd,’ failed to nab the top spot of the Billboard 200 (unlike its predecessors – 2016’s ‘Major Key’ and 2017’s ‘Grateful’ respectively).

Like we reported here, ‘Asahd’ – despite its guest list of heavy hitters and padding its first week sales with a merchandise bundle – still came in second place to Tyler, the Creator‘s critically acclaimed album, ‘IGOR.’  The upset was all the more shocking as the latter set had no Billboard Hot 100 top 40 singles to precede its arrival, unlike that of Khaled’s.

Our friends at Page Six first broke the story that Khaled was “fuming” at his label, Epic Records, after losing out to Tyler and reportedly was “yelling” and throwing a “temper tantrum.” Later, the 43-year-old uploaded a video (that’s now deleted) that may not confirm his tantrum at Epic, but at least suggests he felt some kinda way about Tyler’s triumph.

With assistance from music’s heaviest hitters (Nipsey Hussle, Beyonce, Jay Z, Big Sean, John Legend, Cardi B, Meek Mill, and many more), DJ Khaled’s newest project – ‘Father of Asahd’ – was once believed to be a shoo-in for the top of the Billboard 200 upon its arrival. A feat not uncommon for the 43-year-old’s collaboration-heavy projects as both of ‘Asahd’s predecessors – 2016’s ‘Major Key’ and 2017’s ‘Grateful’ respectively – bowed atop the tally.

Yet, even after adding padding to the product’s first week sales via a merchandise bundle deal, Khaled’s effort still trailed behind fellow Hip Hop star Tyler, the Creator.

Not even the combined powers of Beyonce, Jay Z, Big Sean, John Legend, Cardi B, Meek Mill, and more could help DJ Khaled‘s latest album – ‘Father of Asahd’ – outpace Tyler the Creator‘s new project, ‘IGOR.’

According to industry analysts, Khaled – despite an aggressive promo schedule that’s not only seen him tackle radio, print, and TV but also seen him drop multiple music videos in his latest LP’s support – will bow at #2 on next week’s refreshed Billboard 200 with approximately 115k-130k sold (25k-35k pure sales).

Ahead of a stunning performance of the cut on last night’s ‘SNL’ as seen here (May 18), DJ Khaled‘s ‘Jealous’ got the video treatment via an Eif Rivera-directed clip.

Famously sampling Diana King‘s signature 90’s hit, ‘Shy Guy,’ the tune – found aboard Khaled’s recently released, ‘Father of Asahd’ – features longtime collaborators Lil WayneChris Brown, and Big Sean.  Its cinematic accompanying music video, which registers in at a whopping 8-minutes, sees a cameo from Khaled’s ‘Dinero’ co-star Jennifer Lopez and so many more.

DJ Khaled kicked off the campaign for new album ‘Father Of Asahd’ with a seismic showing on Saturday Night Live.

Much like LP, the hitmaker was surrounded by a number of notable guests – including SZA, Big Sean, and J Balvin.

Also joining him was John Legend, who helped deliver a spirited rendition of their Nipsey Hussle collaboration ‘Higher.’

As widely reported, the late rapper was tragically killed outside his Marathon clothing store back in March.

In salute to him, Khaled and his collaborators observed a moment in his honor.

Days before Nipsey Hussle‘s untimely death he filmed a music video for the DJ Khaled song, ‘Higher’ (found aboard his new album ‘Father of Asahd’).

With John Legend on the hook, the now almost haunting visual – filmed in Inglewood, California – sees the trio show love to the ‘Golden State’ with classic hydraulic-bouncing cars and messages of peace and unity in the LA streets.

Taking to social media earlier this week, Khaled remembered Hussle fondly in a statement:

“The very title of the song reminds us that vibrating on a ‘Higher’ level was the essence of Nipsey’s soul,” Khaled wrote in his statement posted on social media. “It is in this spirit, of moving forward, of preserving his mission that I, my co-writers, producers and label partners are donating 100 percent of all our proceeds from ‘Higher’ to [Nipsey’s] children, Emani and Kross.”

Khaled also confirmed he received “full blessing” from the late rap star’s family.  See the finished product inside:

DJ Khaled is driving full steam to the release of his 11th album ‘Father Of Asahd’ this Friday (May 17th).

Unlike prior LPs, the set hasn’t preceded by a slew of singles and instead has been teased in earnest on social media.

Indeed, as of last week, the hitmaker revealed his label have been pushing for him to finally submit the project so as to make its retail deadline.

Its tracklist remains a mystery, but Khaled whipped up excitement moments ago with the album’s official cover – which, naturally, features little Asahd.

As for guests on the record, many names including the Cardi B, the late Nipsey Hussle, John Legend have all been confirmed.

It’s also expected that 2018’s ‘Top Off’ featuring Jay-Z, Beyonce, and Future will appear; as will ‘No Brainer’ with Justin Bieber, Quavo, and Chance The Rapper.

“Booked” and “busy” are most definitely understatements when talking about reigning rapstress Cardi B.

Fresh from her historic, yet controversial ‘Best Rap Album’ Grammy win (click here to read), the 26-year-old made headlines for confirming the longstanding rumor that she and ‘Finesse’ co-star, Bruno Mars, have a follow-up collaboration coming (click here to read more on that).

As if that’s not enough, DJ Khaled took to Instagram recently to confirm he was hard at work with the ‘Trap Selena’ on a ‘top secret’ collaboration set to line his ‘Father of Asahd’ album (due later this year).
