If you thought Jennifer Hudson‘s absence from news headlines was indication she wasn’t busy, you couldn’t be more mistaken.

As she preps for her leading role in NBC’s ‘Hairspray Live!’ (December 7th) and hitting the judges’ bench for ‘The Voice UK,’ the Grammy-winning diva is also reportedly hard at work preparing for her role in Adam Sandler’s Netflix project ‘Sandy Wexler.’  But, fans of Hudson’s claim to fame – music – needn’t worry they’ll be neglected much longer.

After her 2014 “self-titled” project, ‘JHud,’ was met with mixed critical review (and poor commercial reception), the powerhouse singer is finally ready for redemption via her yet-titled fourth LP.  Taking to Billboard, Hudson recently delivered an update on the project and her other dealings.

The singer continues her make-up-free comeback campaign a-front of Time Out Magazine New York. 

It’s the latest in a long line of promotional spots lined up for the star’s return to the spotlight.

Earlier this summer it appeared as though all the media moments were leading up to an album release. However, when lead single ‘In Common’ failed to ignite the charts, the volume on album chatter was turned down. All the way down.

Keen to change is this the British creative Keith Dube who teamed up with the British Broadcasting Channel to create the deeply emotive ‘Being Black, Going Crazy?.’

In it, he explores the community’s painful and complex relationship with the matter and seeks answers to the problems those who struggle with mental health within the community face in wider society.

It really is a must-see.

There once existed an era where obtaining a Gold and arguably Platinum record was a given for even the most modest of acts. Today, we see “A List” artists struggling to hit bronze. With 2016 nearing its end, only three acts (Drake, Beyoncé, and Rihanna) have reached Platinum status with their new releases; and even that count has been called into question (see: ‘ANTI,’ Samsung, and streaming).

As sales have dived, streaming has thrived – helping the U.S music business grow by 8.1% over the last year. And still, in the sea of changing rules and weekly revisions, it remains difficult to decipher who is dominating and whose success may be attributable to smoke and mirrors. Indeed, it’s now become commonplace for projects that have yet hit to hit Platinum in pure sales being certified double and even triple Platinum thanks to “other” factors.

A simple sign of changing consumption patterns? Perhaps. But what is becoming problematic is how said plaques are being used and arguably abused to market the meagre as major.

This reality has led some corners to call for the implementing of a Silver certification by the RIAA. It’s already a “thing” in large markets such as the U.K and we, here at TGJ, feel the States could benefit from the same.

Is she? Isn’t she?

Lady Gaga‘s name has been almost singularly attached to the headlining slot at the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

All month multiple sources have reported that it was a done deal and that the ‘Perfect Illusion’ singer will indeed be taking centre-stage in Houston next February.

Yet a spanner was thrown into the works last week when the NFL denied that a definite decision had been made.

Now, a new source alludes to that move being simply to allow organisers to make the announcement themselves.

And apparently they may very well be doing that in a mere matter of days.

Alicia Keys was the latest name to take to the stage at the 2016 Apple Music Festival.

The 15-time Grammy winner played to a packed crowd at the Roundhouse in London last night, with millions more watching online.

During her hit-filled set, the singer was sure to interweave new material – presumably from her delayed comeback album. Included was a performance of the previously unheard ‘She Don’t Really Care.’

A sonic nod to the gritty Hip-Hop knock Keys promised on her as yet untitled LP, the track went down a treat live.
