Missy Elliott is no stranger to seeing the words “first ever” attached to her name over her 25-year career.

In addition to becoming the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, she’s also the first female rapper to receive the MTV VMA Michael Jackson Vanguard Award for her achievements in the medium of music video.

This week, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) added yet another groundbreaking milestone to her lengthy list of accomplishments when it reported the upgraded certification status of her 2005 album, ‘The Cookbook.’

The professional and legal woes continue to mount for embattled R&B legend R. Kelly.

Nearly four months after a federal jury in Brooklyn found the 55-year-old singer guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking (as we reported here), he’s not only awaiting sentencing for that conviction but is also preparing for the August kick off of another federal case surrounding child pornography charges in his hometown of Chicago.

As his legal defense team braces for that courtroom showdown, CBS reports it’s taken quite the hit as two key members – attorneys Steve Greenberg and Michael Leonard – have formally made requests to be removed from the case.

The stars aligned virtually tonight for the MOBO Awards 2021.

For more than two decades, the ceremony has served as the top beacon of honour for music of black origin in the UK.

Returning to a live format at the Coventry Building Society Arena, this year’s edition of the world-renown show saluted the names and releases that have made the last twelve months so action-packed.

The evening, which was hosted by Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock and comedian Munya Chawawa, brought with it seismic performances from the likes of Bree Runway, Tems, NSG, and Stefflon Don.

Taylor Swift is celebrating.

After receiving a GRAMMY nomination for Album of the Year, the ‘All Too Well’ singer has delivered an acoustic rendition of her song ‘Champagne Problems’ from her nominated ‘Evermore’ album.

Speaking about the performance and her nomination, she said:

“SO stoked evermore has been honored like this. Congrats to all our fellow nominees.”

‘Evermore’ will face off albums from Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, H.E.R., Lil Nas X, Jon Batiste, and Lady Gaga.

The news of ‘Evermore’ being nominated comes just a day after it was announced she had broken records with her re-released ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’ album.
