Since bursting onto the scene with his 2017 released, top 5 debut album – ‘American Teen’ – R&B crooner Khalid has been a staple in the chart’s top 40 as both feature and leading act.  Seeing that success trickle over onto the October 2018-released EP, ‘SunCity,’ the commercial response clearly served as indication fans were ready for the singer’s sophomore LP.

Answering the call with ‘Talk’ & ‘Better’ – the leading singles from his second album, ‘Free Spirit’ (April 5) – both tunes received favorable critical and commercial responses as they peaked inside the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 at #40 and #16 respectively [to date].  Now, with over 24 hours separating their parent album from its official unveiling, industry analysts are able to predict how many units the product will shift its first 7 days of availability.

Khalid collates an eclectic collection of tracks on his sophomore album ‘Free Sprit.’

Unleashed today, the 17-song set arrives two years after the star released his Platinum debut ‘American Teen.’

Paired with a like-titled short film, ‘Spirit’ sees the 21-year-old explore themes of growth, meaning, love, and more – all against the backdrop of magnetic production; production he says sounds like a movie (hence why he made one!)

The project is preceded by singles such as ‘Talk’ and ‘Self’ and also features John Mayer.

Before then, though, the eclectic singer has premiered a like-titled short film.

Co-written by the 21-year-old himself, the flick (which received a one-day theatrical run) was directed by Emil Nava.

Explaining the rationale for the production – which delves into the themes and ideology explored on the LP – he said:

“It sounds like a movie, why not make it a damn movie?”

With last year’s ‘American Teen,’ newcomer Khalid was catapulted to definitive breakout star status.

Now, armed with that success and more (hello ‘Love Lies’) he follows-up with brand new EP ‘Suncity.’

Inspired by a recent trip to his hometown of El Paso, Texas (known colloquially as Sun City), the EP is comprised of seven tracks and is billed as a bridge of sorts to his hotly anticipated sophomore album – due in 2019.

Speaking on the set (which includes recently released single ‘Better’), 20-year-old Khalid said:

“I want my music to grow and represent how I am growing up. Suncity is the start of a new era for me; this music poured out of me and I didn’t want to wait to share it. I wanted to be able to live in this moment with my fans and my friends and speak from the heart.”
