New Song: David Guetta - 'Love Takes Over (ft. Kelly Rowland'
The official radio/Pop version of David Guetta’s new Kelly Rowland assisted single ‘When Love Takes Over’ finally surfaced today. For the last few months, several remixes of the cut have been floating around the net.
About the track, I’m liking it a lot. Granted the Dance/House production isn’t my usual listening preference, Kelly’s vocal delivery (singing full voice) really makes this one a winner. Raw, impassioned and believable, Ms. Kelly shines on this one more so than I’ve heard from her before. Great catchy track, which I envision being a success here in Europe.
Tidbit: Kelly is set to record the video for the clip with David shortly.

Hit or Miss?

As Kelly Rowland continues work on her 3rd solo album, her collaboration with renown French DJ David Guetta has surfaced. The track, ‘Love Takes Over’, is very much a Dance cut, which is a departure from the sound we’re used to hearing Kelly feature on. That said, while the song (and the genre generally) is a bit too ‘busy’ IMO, Kelly’s vocals sound great and she’s ‘singing singing’ like we know she can. Here’s hoping we hear more of this kind of delivery with her next LP.

Kelly Rowland - 'Broken' & 'Unity'R&B singer Kelly Rowland’s revamped version of her sophomore effort ‘Ms. Kelly: Diva Deluxe’ is out now on iTunes. ‘Broken’ and ‘Unity’ are two of the new tracks that feature on the album.

Produced by Stargate (Rihanna, Ne-Yo etc), ‘Broken’ is a piano-driven mid-tempo cut. The track’s laid back vibe is both its strength and weakness; solid overall, I was kinda left feeling as if the song would have benefited from Kelly vocally exerting herself more – especially on the adlibs.

‘Unity’ sees the former Destiny’s Child star embrace a more Pop/Alternative sound. With its rousing chorus, the song takes on a anthem-like form. I’m liking this one quite a lot.

Kelly Rowland - 'Love Again' As R&B songstress Kelly Rowland gears up for the digital re-release of her album ‘Ms. Kelly’ (Diva Deluxe), the full version of one of the album’s new songs, the ballad ‘Love Again’, has surfaced.
After hearing the snippet a few weeks back, I knew this would be something special. Kelly really didn’t disappoint; IMO this is one of the best solo offerings I’ve heard from her. Her vocals excel over the stripped down instrumentation. A beautifully sung track, indeed. Though I often like to stray from the Beyonce comparisons, I really feel as if ‘Love Again’ is Kelly’s ‘Dangerously In Love’. Granted the album will not be released physically, I’m hopeful Kelly includes this on her new album. ‘Ms. Kelly: Diva Deluxe’ hits digital outlets on March 25th. {Thanks Angel!}

As fans await more details on the re-release of Kelly Rowland’s ‘Ms. Kelly’ album, a seemingly new track has surfaced. It’s believed ‘No Man, No Cry’ was intended for placement on her shelved ‘My Story’ LP. Word is that R&B crooner Tank produced the song; indeed, the production has an undercurrent similar to that of ‘Ghetto’ from the ‘Ms. Kelly’ record. Though not groundbreaking, I’m really feeling the song; Kelly vocally exerts herself, here, in a way we’re not used to hearing from her on her solo offerings. Good stuff. {Thanks Angel}

As reported back in October, Kelly Rowland recorded a track with Gym Class Heroes front man Travis McCoy. The full song, titled ‘Daylight’ (a Bobby Womack cover), surfaced today and I am pleasantly surprised. Upon hearing the snippet earlier this month I wasn’t too optimistic, but listening to the mid-tempo track in its entirety has made me like it more.
‘Daylight’ is to feature on the soundtrack of French film ‘Asterix’. What’s unknown, at present, is whether the song will be on (or be the first single) from the previously announced ‘Ms. Kelly’ re-release – due early next year. A tidbit: ‘Work’ has been re-scheduled for release in the UK on 28th January 2008 meaning the long-awaited video should be premiering soon. Anyway, ‘Daylight’…

A snippet of Kelly Rowland’s new single ‘Daylight’ (ft. Gym Class Heroes) has surfaced. The track, which is set to be the singer’s new single, goes for adds on radio in January. It sounds promising, although I will reserve full judgement until I hear the track in its entirety.

Rihanna – Cry

‘Cry’ is featured as a bonus track on the Japanese version of Rihanna’s upcoming album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’. Though the song wouldn’t be out of place on the album’s main tracklist, it’s understandable why it was left off. The ballad is ‘ok’ at best and, though lyrically engaging, the song is pretty bland. I’ve definitely heard better ballads from the Bajan singer before.

Mutya Buena – B Boy Baby (ft. Amy Winehouse)
Some of you – especially our European visitors – may remember Mutya from her time in one of the UK’s biggest girl groups, the Sugababes. Since leaving the group in 2005, Mutya has recently re-emerged with a new album ‘Real Girl’ (due June 4th) and her current single of the same name is enjoying major success on the charts (currently sitting at #11 on downloads alone). This new track, ‘B Boy Baby’, is a collaboration with rapidly rising star Amy Winehouse and is featured on Mutya’s album. I’m liking this laid-back mid-tempo track; it has a cool throwback vibe to it. If you liked Amy’s international hit ‘Rehab’, then you’ll probably enjoy this one too.

R. Kelly – Good Sex (ft. Twista)
The Runners produced ‘Good Sex’ sees R. Kelly and Twista hook up again for another collaboration. Their last collabo ‘So Sexy’ was a great track, however ‘Good Sex’ kinda falls short of the benchmark set by their last outing. The song, a bonus track on R. Kelly’s latest album ‘Double Up’ (released this week), is just too standard – from the production to the tired subject matter. Thankfully the actual ‘Double Up’ album is solid and I suppose the song serves it’s purpose as a bonus track to bulk up the tracklisting.

Kelly Rowland – Love (Snippet)
As the release of Kelly Rowland’s 2nd solo album ‘Ms Kelly’ draws nearer (due July 3rd), more songs from the set have started to surface. This lengthy clip of ‘Love’, a track from the CD, further suggests that Kelly really brought ‘it’ on the album. Aside from the great production, the attention grabbing lyrics enhance the song’s appeal. The track, co-written by Beyonce’s sister Solange (a few eyes rolled there, I’m sure..lol) sees Kelly taking a different approach to the overdone subject of love.

What do you think of the New Songs?
As former Destiny’s Child member, Kelly Rowland, preps her sophomore album – ‘Ms Kelly’ (due June 26th), another track rumoured to be on the album has leaked. The song is called ‘All On You’ and features rapper Lil Wayne. I’m pretty sure the version that has leaked is a demo, as only some parts sound like Kelly (a session vocalist was probably used for the demo). The track definitely is (to be) a Kelly song as Lil Wayne name drops her alot throughout the track. It’s got a real old-skool funk vibe to it; I’m feeling this one alot.
Check it out and tell me what you think….
