Now one of the year’s most well loved releases, Drake‘s smash hit ‘Marvin’s Room‘ saw a plethora of artists from all walks of creative life put their spin on the moody love song in homage to the Rapper.

However, according to the Young Money Prince one particular reworking of the song stood out to him far more than the others did.

It’s been a minute since Lady GaGa‘s been snapped in one of her wacky get-ups. Yet that all changed last night when the singer stopped traffic in New York’s Meatpacking District.

Towering over her adorning fans, the 24 year old rocked her trademark platforms, while sporting a blazing red ensemble.

No word on where she was coming from. Yet we wouldn’t be shocked if she was out doing groceries. There really is only one Lady GaGa…

While Kelly Rowland continues to dazzle during the auditions phase of the X Factor UK, ‘real-time’ has seen the Destiny’s Child alumni shooting the Judges Houses segment of the show.

And while speculation had been rife as to who the 30 year old would enlist to assist her, it has today been confirmed that Grammy and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is the surprise name.

The ‘Spotlight’ singer shot her scenes, which saw Kelly’s category whittled down for the live shows, at Rowland’s Miami home yesterday. {Source}

While Ms. Hudson is certainly a coup for the show, it’s a shame that gone (seemingly) are the days when producers would allow judges to bring their own assistance (i.e. Danni-Kylie). For, like many, yours truly anticipated Beyonce or Michelle or someone with a legit connection. Still, ratings are ratings, and based on public response, winning is winning – the latter being what Kelly and this new panel are clearly doing.

Leona Lewis‘ music may incessantly be slammed for being mundane, yet the Londoner cannot be critiqued for her ever-evolving image.

Cue her edgy new shoot for ‘Rollacoaster’ magazine. Indeed, the colour and spark that her personality and material tends to lack manifests in this stunning new shot which accompanies her feature in the snazzy mag.

Speaking on her rep for being “boring”, the 26 year old tells the publication:

“I’ve read it, especially from one journalist who has never met me. But it doesn’t bother me.

I’d rather be seen like that than a harsh, brash person. If my friends said that, then I’d have something to worry about.” {Source}

Hmm. Not so sure about that. We’re in an age where consumers want to buy into much more than just the music. One need not look further than Rihanna –whose success has almost entirely been built on her image and ‘rebelious’ personality. Does that have to be Leona’s selling point? Of course not. Yet, she’d be better off realising that it’s not her “friends” who’ll buy enough records to ensure she stay relevant.

Still, it begs the question…how, exactly, can she not be boring? Your guess is as good as mine. However, other acts charged with such personality crimes such as Beyonce oft manage to exude personality in abundance on stage. Something Ms. Lewis can’t say she does regularly. Alas, there’s still hope.

In any case, ‘Rollacoaster’ is the latest in a string of promotional spots for the 26 year old, whose new single ‘Collide’ is on course for a top 5 position on this week’s Official UK Singles Chart.

The Milian musical-merry-go-round continues to turn as news has surfaced singer Christina Milian has ditched the original plans for her oft-delayed fourth studio release.  Initially entitled ‘Elope’, the 29-year-old songstress spoke with our friends at The BoomBox to reveal the latest details on the (now) untitled new album.

Although readying for a role in the ABC Family program ‘Maid In Miami’, the ‘Dip It Low’ diva is ‘determined’ to get back behind the mic.  Read her statements after the jump:

For all the social strides towards equality, the topic of homosexuality remains taboo in many an arena – not least in Hip-Hop.

Indeed, despite living in an era where displays of sexuality are as flagrant as ever, such showings in Urban music are almost exclusively of the hetrosexual (and often, misogynistic) persuasion.

Do such practices point to same-sex relations being non-existant in the Hip-Hop diaspora? Of course not. However, what is potently underscored here, is Hip-Hop’s willing silence on topics of the rainbow persuasion. Particularly when it pertains to artists active in the hyper-masculine field.

What’s bothersome for many, however, is the genre’s continued embrace of homophobic lyrics and images. Images which perpetuate the ideology that to be gay is to be ‘less’ than a man.

And yet for many industry and cultural analysts, such a stance is as ironic as ironic can be. For, the very industry at the heart of discussion is dominated by those of the gay persuasion. From make-up artists, to managers, to label execs, to – of course- artists themselves. Rapper the Game indeed made no mistake when he declared “Beyonce really should have sung, who run the world? Gays”. Well, at least when it comes to any such discussion relating to the music world.

As such, in our drive to continually push the envelope, That Grape Juice TV brings you a telling segment from Byron Hurt‘s 2007 documentary ‘Hip Hop: Beyond Beats & Rhymes’.

In this riveting piece, Hurt probes Hip-Hop’s homophobia and undercover displays homo-erotica in the videos and images of some your favourite rappers.

Things appear to be on the up-and-up for ‘Unbreak My Heart’ belter Toni Braxton. The six-time Grammy winner is not only readying a new season of famed reality show ‘Braxton Family Values’ and rumored to (soon) be rocking Broadway, but now she has landed in headlines after news surfaced of a new management deal.

Billboard reports:

“Los Angeles-based entertainment/production company The Collective has signed Grammy Award-winning singer Toni Braxton and up-and-coming singer/songwriter BC Jean for worldwide career management. The announcement follows the company’s recent signing of singer/actress and Destiny’s Child founding member Kelly Rowland.

Jean, best known for penning the Beyoncé hit “If I Were a Boy,” is currently working on her debut pop/rock album for RCA Music Group/Sony Music.”

Congratulations are in order for both ladies.  Here’s hoping the new deal will lead to soon-released new music to bring the ‘Pulse’ back into the songstress’s oh-so-deserving music career!
