Pop phenomenon Lady GaGa was interviewed by television icon Barbra Walters last evening. The entertainer was listed as one of Walters’ ’10 Most Fascinating People of 2009′. During the discussion, a very humble GaGa revealed facets of her journey to stardom, her sexuality, artistry and her relationship with her family.
If there is one journalist that leaves everyone starstruck, it’s Barbra Walters. GaGa basically melted when asked about her sexuality, as if embarrassed to discuss the details with a parent. This interview displays how complex yet human the singer really is behind all of the glitz and glam. Quite interesting indeed.
Sidebar: Lady GaGa was not the first act to have their first 4 singles on their debut album go to #1. That honor is held by Mariah Carey, who is also the only artist to have their first 5 records top the charts.
Comeback queen Whitney Houston kicked off her world tour today in Moscow, Russia. The singer, 46, voice was in tip-top shape (for 2009 Whitney) as she revisited her classic hits as well as new cuts from her Platinum selling LP ‘I Look To You’. She has really come leaps and bounds with the vocals, which in time I’m sure will only get even better. You can watch the performance of ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ above, and the rest below (video quality isn’t great, but oh well). Go Nippy!
Peep episode 7 of Monica‘s BET reality show ‘Still Standing’ (below), which aired earlier this week. As usual, I’m watching it now…what are you waiting for?! LOL. Enjoy.
We here at That Grape Juice are pleased to announce that will be interviewing multi-time Grammy nominee Fantasia in the coming week!
The American Idol alum is gearing up for the January première of her new VH1 reality show ‘Fantasia For Real’, as well as her 3rd studio album, which is also due early 2010.
Do you have any questions for Fantasia? If so, be sure to drop them in the comments section. As usual, only legitimate questions will be considered.
Rapper 50 Cent is currently over here in Europe promoting his latest LP ‘Before I Self Destruct’, most recently stopping by The Graham Norton Show here in the UK.
In this hilarious interview, the G-Unit general talks everything from bloggers, his condom line, his new music (of course), getting “shot 9 times” lol and a whole lot more. As much as ol’ Curtis is an annoyance at times, he’s really been coming across well in these recent interviews. This one particularly, for – as on paper (as UK folk will know) – Graham and 50 aren’t a pair you’d expect to hit it off like they did. Great interview.
Sade has just released the first single from next year’s ‘Soldier of Love’ LP. The title track features productions by Mike Pela and vocals from lead singer, Sade Adu. The ‘Soldier of Love’ album hits stores on February 8th 2010.
Although promoting a similar message, this track serves as the complete opposite of Jordin Sparks’ ‘Battlefield’; dark and haunting. Sade Adu’s smokey vocals tie in perfectly with the foreboding productions. It is really astonishing how a vocalist with such a limited vocal range is able to convey such a powerful performance. It goes to show that the old adage is true: less is indeed more.
Amidst unconfirmed reports that she is about to go on tour, diva Mariah Carey is set to debut her video for her new single, ‘H.A.T.E.U.’ The Brett Ratner-directed clip is set to premiere later this week according to Mariah’s management. ‘H.A.T.E.U.’ has thus far peaked at #76 on the Hip-Hop/R&B charts.
Hopefully this video is ‘the business’ because, quite frankly, nobody seems interested in either this song or the album. It’s really a shame though, as the track is undoubtedly one of the best records off the album, and is lyrically and vocally fantastic. Here’s to hoping that things work out for this one.
We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming….
{So sad, I’ve always wanted to say that LOL}
OK, so it’s been a slow news day until maybe a few hours ago, which believe it or not has made for one boring a** day for me. In saying that, it freed me up to surf the net on a non-“must post this now” basis the first time a while. It also got me thinking about a host of random things. Check out my ramblings below:
* Does anyone else think Fantasia‘s performance (above) at the Patti Labelle tribute is one of the year’s best. Classic!
* Can someone, anyone, please clue me up on the latest on ‘Desperate Housewives’. I keep watching religiously and then going Cold-Turkey for no reason! Note: The last episode I watched saw Lynette’s son framed for ‘the fire’. What’s popped off between then and now?
* The comments I read on That Grape Juice crack me up on the daily (even the ones cussing me out)! I swear some of y’all need to be comedians lol
* I’m such a procrastinator. There are at least three things I should be doing instead of this at this exact moment! LOL
* I am legitimately intrigued at people’s stories of how they discovered That Grape Juice, no matter how basic such accounts may be (Google, another site, a friend…)
* This message on Facebook from a childhood friend who emigrated to the US made my day:
You know whats funny Sammy….Is that some of my friends over here were showing their other friends this website (yours) a while back…..and I was like…I know the creator! ( i felt so proud! lol)
* My Rihanna debates regularly extend into discussions with my friends (half of whom agree with me and the other half think Ms. Fenty is a “baaaad b**ch”!)
* I’m completely shocked at some of the messy comments thrown my way by a couple of fellow bloggers since v.2.0 launched (go figure – begins with a ‘J’ ends in a ‘Y’ LOL). If you’re wondering who I’m talking about, I’ll just say: a random Australian weed-smoker and another UK blogger who I really respected at one point.
* Is anyone else fascinated by the many different impressions people have of you? I’ve heard that I’m quiet, too loud, friendly, ‘stoosh’, an outright ‘bitch’. Things that make you go ‘hmmm’
* Super Mario Wii looks like ‘the business’. Got it? Is it any good?
* I miss Michael Jackson 🙁
* That Grape Juice’s Trent is probably the most hot-headed person I know. Boy do Caribbean’s have a tongue on them! LOL
* Blackberry or iPhone? (My BB is in repair…damn that trackball aka wackball!)
* Relationships; what’s your take on the concept of in every relationship there being ‘the lover’ and ‘the loved’?
Pop royalty Janet Jackson has been here in London this weekend for a number of shows. Peep her leaving Mr Chows restaurant in Knightsbridge, West London last night. Tidbit: That ‘hair’ is looking good!
Ms. Jackson poses it up in this shot with an 11 year old who had flown over 200 miles to see her perform on the X-Factor. When the young girl also said she’s a major fan of Janet’s late, great brother Michael, the 43 year old shed a tear and thanked her. Awww!
The youngest of the Knowles clan, Solange, hit the town in Miami with singer Janelle Monae this past weekend. Not sure we’re feeling the get-up on ol’ Solo.
Actress Vivica Fox hit up Hollywood’s Millions of Milkshakes last night to mix her own celebrity milkshake. If ever there was a poster-child for reclaiming one’s looks after botched surgery, it would be Aunt Viv. After a rough patch, which saw her looking worse for wear more times than not, she has really bounced back this year. She looks great! {Spotted over at The YBF}
Rapper Nelly poses it up with his daughter, Chanell Haynes, and mother (below) at his 4th annual charity Black & White Ball in St. Louis over the weekend.
International star Kelly Rowland works it out on the red carpet of a party she hosted at the Mur Mur Atlantic City yesterday. She looks great!
R&B veteran R. Kelly was interviewed by Skee TV recently and took a moment to address his detractors – seemingly taking particular aim at Trey Songz, who slammed him earlier this year. Say what you want about Kellz, but…really…Trey Songz?!
I mean,yes, this did come across like one big self-endorsement. Yet, in saying that, he wasn’t lying about anything now, was he?
Following Rihanna‘s comments about wanting to “switch off” R&B singer Tiffany Evans (regarding Evans’ comments on RiRi and the Illumnati), Evans has taken to her Twitter page to respond. Here’s what she said:
I just wanna say that I personally do not have beef with Rihanna. Why would I have any beef with someone I don’t even know? It’s stupid. Whatever statements I made about the industry was not geared towards Rihanna in any type of way. What I said about RussianR was blown way out.
So to Rihanna as young woman with total respect I apologize for the huge misunderstanding.
Citing certain blog sites for fuelling the fire (not us of course, Tiffany is a TGJ fan), Tiffany hilariously rounded off by adding:
Oh one more thing,about her calling me out with remote thing on big boi LOL I thought is was funny. Too bad I can Sang!
LMAO! Tiffany kept it classy, yet got the undeniable in at the end! POW…lol
Tidbit: Reality TV personality Tila Tequila, who Ms. Fenty also called out in the interview, responded…levelling some truly SHOCKING accusations about against her. Click here to read what she had to say. Explosive! (Knowing Tila, it could all just be rubbish, but a fascinating read nonetheless!)
The legendary Stevie Wonder broke down while performing ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ (with John Legend), as a tribute to the late, great Michael Jackson at the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s 25th Anniversary yesterday. Seemingly shaken quite early on in the song, Wonder completely lost it at about the 1.36 point. Check out the video above.
Michael and Stevie not only shared a deep, mutual respect for each other musically, they were great friends; a fact which makes this all the more harder to watch. Kudos to Stevie for soldiering on and finishing the performance.
In keeping it 100% real with you, I’ve yet to fully come to terms with the fact that Michael is no longer with us. With his music being what birthed my interest in music full-stop (hence the eventual emergence of this very site), my swallowing of the idea that he’s left this earth will take much more than a movie (which was great BTW) or the countless tributes assembled. Put simply, I’m yet to be ‘OK’ with the fact Michael Jackson is dead. Hence, (tell me if it’s the same for you) I periodically find the whole fact he’s gone hitting me and thinking ‘Damn’. I guess we should all find comfort in the fact that what he did achieve and leave (us with) will live forever – hence so will he. Long live the King…
