Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from Lisa and Rosalia, Foster the People, JAEHYUN, and Bishop Briggs.

Does ‘Maybe I Deserve‘ hitmaker Tank deserve the royal backlash he’s receiving for pitting King of Pop Michael Jackson and Chris Brown?  MJ fans say yes.

Two years ago the GRAMMY nominee fielded criticism for his staunch belief about Brown’s superiority over Mike.

“I’ve been the only one saying this and I’ve felt alone for so long,” he said at the time in agreement with a Twitter user who posted CB was greater. “Singer, Dancer, writer, producer, actor, painter, clothing designer, gymnast, ninja, etc! MJ is the greatest but CB has more gifts is all we’re saying.”

Doubling down on his stance, Tank (born Durrell Babbs) set the internet aflame this week when he not only doubled down on the stance but also elaborated on why Breezy is better.

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are wasting no time lighting a match under their new single ‘Die With A Smile.’

For, just hours after releasing the colossal collaboration, the pair surprised the masses at Mars’ Intuit Dome show in Los Angeles with a live rendition.

Together, they vocally soared with a powerful performance of the anthemic cut.

Speaking on how the pairing came up, Gaga

“Bruno and I have a lot of mutual respect for each other and were talking about collaborating. I was finishing up my own album in Malibu and one night after a long day he asked me to come to his studio to hear something he was working on. It was around midnight when I got there and I was blown away when I heard what he had started making. We stayed up all night and finished writing and recording the song. Bruno’s talent is beyond explanation. His musicianship and vision is next level. There’s no one like him.”

Mars added:

“Getting to work with Gaga has been an honor. She’s an icon and she makes this song magical. I’m so excited for everyone to hear it.”

While Victoria Monet fielded headline-grabbing criticism for simply being among the concert attendees at a recent stop of Chris Brown‘s hotly selling ‘11:11 Tour,’ songstress Jordin Sparks was greeted with similar judgment yet (ironically) for solely attending and performing on stage with him.

The ‘American Idol‘ alum sang her heart out from the audience while watching Brown sing their 2008 hit ‘No Air’ by his lonesome – a happening that skyrocketed Sparks’ name into trending status last week.

Capitalizing on the attention, the GRAMMY nominee used the moment to announce her new single ‘Remember.’

“Do you remember how you used know what I’m thinkin’? / Late night drives in the backseat, got my heart racin’ / Miss how it was when we fell in love / Can you remember (The time)? / I still remеmber (The time),” she sings on the Dem Jointz-produced cut.

“Sweep it up, if you can’t keep up / On the hand it’s still hard to reach ya / Don’t let your next mistake be the one to teach ya,” Jones croons over a London on da Track-produced beat.

Announced earlier this week, the tune comes as the second taste of new music expected to line her anxiously awaited debut album.

Lady Gaga has definitely had her beloved fans (affectionately called #LittleMonsters) smiling at rumored news she was teaming with Bruno Mars for a new single ‘Die with a Smile.’

Once believed to be the first taste of new music from #LG7, her highly anticipated seventh studio album and follow-up to the 2020’s chart-topping ‘Chromatica‘ (2020), the Watt-produced tune was confirmed to be a standalone single.

Regardless, it’s enjoyed ample teasing by both of its performers in the days leading to its official announcement on Thursday (August 15).

Hours later, the anxiously awaited tune has landed on all major streaming services accompanied by a dramatic performance-style music video.

The challenge for music lovers to “match her freak” has lit an overdue fire in the career of Urban Pop stageblazer Tinashe.

Easily one of modern music’s most unsung songbirds, T has been grinding feverishly since first bursting onto the scene with the SchoolBoy Q-assisted ‘2 On‘ in 2014.

Collecting a legion of dedicated fans since, the now-31-year-old has mostly seen her efforts lauded by critics but not necessarily seen that fanfare mirrored commercially – that is, until TikTok helped launch her Ricky Reed-helmed tune ‘Nasty‘ into the viral stratosphere.

Going on to become her most successful solo tune yet, the song has undoubtedly created the biggest buzz T’s seen in a long while for a body of work – a set she’s christened ‘Quantum Baby.’

The conceptual sequel to 2023’s ‘BB/Ang3l,’ the 8-song affair features production contribution from notable names like Reed, DJ Camper, Nosaj Thing, and more.
