Leona’s Debut Smashes Chart Record
British singing sensation Leona Lewis has set a new record for fastest-selling UK debut album of all time. Lewis’ album ‘Spirit’ sold a staggering 375,872 copies in it’s first week, beating the previous record set by the Arctic Monkey’s 2006 LP ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ by some 12,000 copies. ‘Spirit’ now stands as the fourth fastest-selling UK album (not just debut) of all time. The multi-octave singer is set to hit the US early next year. {Source}Honestly speaking, talent like Leona is a rare find on this side of the shores (or anywhere else), so it’s great to see her achieving the success that she is at the moment. I mean, she’s doing US numbers in a much smaller market – already certified Platinum in the process. It’ll be interesting to see if she’s able to take the US by storm too; the album is pretty solid, so I’m guessing she will.

damn… big congrats to her! She’s gonna go places further than her voice echoes. 370,000 is good for a brand new solo artist. even tho she was on X-factor… I haven’t heard of any AI winners sellin that much in their first week

She’s now sold 620,000 copies of the album in the first 15 days of release. That’s probably the equivalent of 2 to 3 million in the States given the population of the UK is 1/5th that of the USA.
