R&B singer Brandy has been known to venture into her bathroom and apply her vocal prowess to some of musics best known classics. This time the star, whose new reality series, ‘Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business’, delivered a rendition of Etta James’ ‘At Last’. Brandy’s new show premieres on April 11th.
Brandy certainly did the song justice. Every note was injected with an unmistakable passion and skillfully controlled. However, I always wonder why singers always use this song to show off their ability to do vocal runs. Like the ‘Star Spangled Banner‘, there is absolutely no need to drag out every syllable with over 50 notes. Nonetheless, Brandy still performed it well, unlike a certain dirrty singer who (as usual) turned the song into a complete scream-fest; sounding more like horrible Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston wannabe instead of paying tribute to James.

Brandy did draw the song out too much but she definitely sang it better than Beyonce. Brandy just sang acapella, while we heard Beyonce sing to a track. I know Bey stans are 30 seconds behind this comment, and I could care less, but Brandy has depth in her voice and will always be the best at what she does, btw Beyonce didn’t kill Brandy’s career, she killed Ashanti’s career but Brandy made the way for young singers like Beyonce so know your music history boo! Brandy,Monica and Aaliyah made it possible. Beyonce is a wonderful artist but some of her stans are unrealistic and uncompromising in the way they measure her success and vocal ability. LOVE LOVE LOVE Brandy’s voice. She is truly in a lane all her own vocally. Secondly, she is not covering Beyonce’s song because it is NOT Beyonce’s song. But for the record, Brandy sang in the bathroom and Beyonce in the studio. The fact that ya’ll are even comparing the two says alot. Imagine if Brandy did record an OFFICIAL version. NUFF SAID. Why even comment on a BRANDY post to say something negative like “I hate Brandy”? What has she ever done TO YOU that results in you having such resentment within your heart towards her? I am not understanding this. Center that negative energy for something else like I dunno…..a life.

Her voice is never ever borin for me, theres always something fresh about her. Shes too dope..I hope she gets nu material from tim, danja and who ever else I want her to sale thru the charts too as im sure many other Bran fans do @dilla

I’m just stating facts, sure I respect Etta for what she did but she didnt get a grammy for the song….and all of these opinions that brandy sung it better wont change the fact that beyonce has a grammy for her version and it goes to show u that the Grammy’s are greater than anybodys opinions….and BRANDY SAID SO HERSELF THAT SHE WAS A BEYONCE STAN! I personally thought she did good…but to think this version slayed beyonce’s multiple versions of at last live on tour and on live tv instead of in her bathroom is nuts…

@ Joe—-The Grammys are not as prestigious as they once were. They hand those bitches out like tic tacs. Did it occur to you that in the 60s they were not handing out Grammys to black artists the way that they do now? Which is why Etta does not have one. Many older artists did not win Grammys until late in their careers so you pointing out that Beyonce won one for “At Last” is INVALID. The song itself is a CLASSIC and it is only natural that they would award now what they didn’t 40+ years ago. Beyonce did a good job singing someone else’s song and so did Brandy ACAPELLA.!

It is scary how ppl on all these blogs defend their favorite celebrities as if they are their personal gods. I mean ppl straight idolize these individuals, esp these beyonce fans, they going in on Brandy saying she tried to hard and beyonce did it btr. I haven’t hrd it yet but that tells me she must have did something since these fans are sounding salty. I heard beyonce’s version and she sounded good to me, so why can’t it be both of these ladies can sing (which they can) and they put their spin on this classic. I mean the the few other ones she had it was nothing but praise, but now since she did something beyonce did, she “over-did-it”? no disrespect but mofos need to get their head out of these celebrities asses b/c shit face is not a good look.

Omg Beyonce stans are the WORST ppl on the Internet. I guess it makes sense based on who they idolize… Do you know who Brandy is? She doesn’t have to “look” for a record deal. She LEFT epic because they weren’t measuring up and giving her the promotion she deserves. She will likely pick up a contract with Motown records. Brandy is the QUEEN. She paved the way for Beyonce and is the BEST vocalist in the business. She did this for fun and for her fans. Any real musician knows the complexity of Brandy’s ear and how she craps on Beyonce’s talent for vocal arrangement. The business hails Brandy for her amazing gift and skill, it’s only you COMMONERS that can’t recognize her vocal prowess. Sit down.
