New Song: Ne-Yo – ‘One In A Million’

Published: Tuesday 24th Aug 2010 by Sam

There appeared to be some confusion over the 3rd single to be lifted from Ne-Yo‘s ‘Libra Scale’ LP (due October 19th). Some outlets confirmed the single to be  ‘One Life’, when in actuality it is set to be ‘One In A Million’.

Take a listen to the song, which we reviewed in our exclusive preview of Libra Scale’, below…

As per our ‘Libra Scale’ preview:

One In A Million:

Led by a hypnotic, tribal beat this resonated well with all in attendance. The hard-hitting production, which is a welcome departure from Ne-Yo’s established sound, was complimented by his trademark harmonies. The lady at the heart of the song is serenaded with lines such as “one thing is for certain…only you can do what you do”. Great track!

Now Ne-Yo can sing and is a great writer but this is not WOW-ing me. This is a decent filler song but nothing to go crazy over.

neyo is a flop now because he has drifted away from the rihanna jay z crew. HE thought
just because he penned ‘take a bow’ and ‘Irreplaceble’ that now he has strong enough wings
to fly. unfortunatly it didnt work out. look at him, hes a dismal flop compared to what he was
    back in 2006.
since hes not with jay anymore hes not “HOT” any more. SAD BUT TRUE!

The Truth Teller sounds like a d*** rider to me. The name should really be The S*** Talker. It is so easy to talk s*** while you are sitting on your ass typing away at your computer screen. But how many songs have you written ,sang, produced?? How many times have you performed?? How big was the audience?? Unless you can do what Ne-Yo’s does, but better, who are YOU to say anything about what he does? And what kind of d*** rider comment is ,now that he aint with Jay-Z anymore, he ain’t hot. You sound like such a FOLLOWER. That is all…

In the 1960’s Black entertainers recognized they could compete with White entertainers if they were BETTER than the competition. Thus the era of combining GREAT dancing and GREAT singing. From this era we got the temptations, four tops, smokey and miracles, michael jackson, and most of the girl groups danced also. Michael would NEVER have become a superstar only standing and singing.

Today we only have Ciara, Chris Brown, Ne-yo, Usher, and a few others holding up the tradition of great song and dance, but most of our BEST performers don’t get any air time. Instead you play Mediocre singers who have no real ability to compete in the extremely competitive environment of today. MEDIOCRE BLACK SINGERS WHO DONT DANCE will facilitate the return of music back to the White community and our entertainers will be performing for pennies on the chitlin circuit.

GREAT DANCING IS THE BIGGEST CATALYST TO BLACK ENTERTAINERS RISE TO THE TOP. EVEN WHITE SUPERSTARS LIKE GAGA AND BRITTANY ONLY RISE TO THE TOP FOR BEING ABLE TO DO BOTH.

Does this sample TruthHurts single? And wasn’t this originally supposed to be a remake of Aaliyah’s classic? Would’ve been fitting since it’s the 9th anniversary of her death.

    @BLACK HISTORY FACT

You made some great points, right up until this s*** “Michael would NEVER have become a superstar only standing and singing.”

You DO NOT know what the f*** Michael would or would not have done. His voice was what took him & the Jackson 5 to the top. NOT his dance moves. People in 1982 said Thriller would NOT sell well & would fall off the charts quickly. So much for that

that “baby your the best i ever had” sounds like “this is a retake of my life” from same script different past/cast (don’t know which it is) and the beat just reminded me of truth hurts – addictive

I love this song but I do believe he sampled other songs. I’ve heard the chorus before. And like others that have noticed, the beat sounds extremely similar Truth Hurts – Addictive.

I am a Ne-Yo fan! I recently had a baby and being a single mother, I haven’t been able to follow Ne-Yo how I used to. I saw his video for One in a Million and I rushed out to buy his CD. It’s been everywhere with me since 🙂 I love the album, only flaw… There are only 10 songs on it and the album doesn’t even total an hour playtime! Even so, Ne-Yo thinks out the box hence, his songs, videos and moves. I love him~
