I’m tired of every celebrity on earth coming out with a perfume and a fashion line. It’s getting really cliche, to be honest. Just stick to your day job, and leave the fashion stuff to the people who are actually GOOD at it. And this applies to EVERYONE, not just Rihanna, it even applies to some of my faves as well. Do you ever see designers try and branch out into music and film? No, they stick to what they’re GOOD AT. I wish the celebs would do the same. Who cares if Loud is selling really well in the UK and then fairly well in the US? First of all, the UK is the THIRD biggest music market in the world. Don’t discredit her UK sales.
Also, in the US, Loud wil not fizzle out. Rihanna never sells a lot each week, but her moderate sales each week (she sells about the same amount of records every week), eventually earn her Platinum and multi-Platinum certifications.
Plus, with “Raining Men” and “S&M” about to impact as singles in January, Loud’s sales will definitely do well. It’s about the long run, anyways.
Nicki, I love her so don’t get me wrong, may have sold 371k first week but her record is likely to only sell 1.2 million overall whereas Loud has been projected to sell a total of 1.5 million records (in that area).

We’ll never know if Beyonce would have shot to stardom without having first built a following through Destiny’s Child. I’m inclined to think that she would have. She is a tremendous talent, even though I don’t have any of her albums.
Now, the Rihanna I love today, was not always the Rihanna I proudly stan for. I didn’t jump on the stanwagon until GGGB because her styling seemed eerily similar to that of Bey’s. The light skin, the long, carmel weeve tracks, etc., but that Jr. Bey formula helped get Rihanna to the point where she could make GGGB. While it probably would have been that much more difficult for Beyonce to brake through without DC, the argument could be made that the market may not have received Rihanna the way it did had Beyonce not preceded her.
It’s sort of like the whole Backstreet Boys/ N’Sync phenomenon. N’Sync used to be the runner up to BSB, but N’Sync was able to brake through because of BSB’s success and the appetite BSB created for boy bands in the mid-late 90′s. Although X-tina would have been recognized sooner or later for her vocal prowess, Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore owe their careers, in some part, to Britney.

with rihanna solidifying her fanbase and having growing album sales, they are not only insecure about beyonce but threatened by rihannas presence.
im not speaking for every stan ofcourse, but on this site especially, there are many B stans that are flustered by rihannas GROWING success.
the sad thing is they dont need to be, beyonce has a decade old fanbase that grew with her from the DC days, along with this beyonce has maintained her successs thru her solo carurr.

Rated R is most certainly a dark non-commercial album, at least for Rihanna.
she went for a TOTALLY different sound from her GGGB era. It was non-commercial in the fact that her core audience of which she catered RnB/Reggae/Dance club bangers over the previous 3 years were not used to this new Darker Edgier Rihanna.
along with this, Rated R was heavily laced with Dub-Step influences much more than other international stars implemented in their albums.
The subject matter was also a bit of a 180 for rihanna as it touched on her controvesial night with chris brown. It may not be some indie or underground trip-hop album, but at the same time it was a MASSIVE departure from the sound people are used to hearing from her.
she took risks and although it didnt sell GGGB numbers , it did pay off. People love to right it off as a complete flop, but considering the fickle market of today/ the risk she took, 3 million is JUST fine. in comparison, Britney and Beyonce have never made such DRASTIC changes to their sound and have been more gradual in their sonic evolution.
Rihanna not only changed her sound but went AGAINST the grain of the market which during this year has been heavily dominated by Dance/Pop influences from many artists.

Rated R is a regular R&B/POP album. Nothing on it is new for her neither for her fans. She went a little bit more to the r&b/hip-hop direction, but it wasn’t different from her past efforts. Basically, you’re saying like she went from pop to new era genre. Please!
“Non-commercial” is pure bullshit thing. Sorry. She has promoted it everywhere for a year and released several singles. DefJam even dropped its price to bring more sales. They were worried about its performance. including her. A “non-commercial” material is when you release it and don’t even care about how it’ll do on the charts, just like Dido did with her last album. She didn’t care to promote it or release singles.
If ‘Rated R’ is so succesful as you may think, DefJam wouldn’t make her go back to studio and record a full new album with a “different direction” when RR wasn’t even 1 y.o.
The “dark” thing isn’t nothing in the music world. Dark isn’t a music genre. There isn’t a dark album, light album, blue album nor red album.
“Britney and Beyonce have never made such DRASTIC changes to their sound”. Neither Rihanan did. Do you want to know what’s a dratic change? Katy Perry has started her career as a gospel-rock singer, then she turned into a pop-plastic singer. P!nk has started her career as a R&B singer, then she turned into a pop-rock singer. Robert Plant went from a heavy metal singer to a country singer. These cases are great exemples of drastic changes on a career.

And B-Day was different from everything at the time of it’s release. It was more of a Funk/Urban album.70s meet modern album. “Irreplacable” went #1 but it was way different than all of the other hits that were topping the charts at the time. There was a lot of Live Instruments which aren’t used a lot in mainstream music anymore
And on IASF “IF I Were a Boy” “Halo” and even “Single Ladies”(find me another mainstream song that sounds like SL) were different from everything else released at the time and those were her biggest hits off the album.

If you dont see how Rated R is totally different from Rihanna’s previous albums and a drastic change for her fans then i dont know what to tell you, believe what you must.
Rated R was a Pop Album with elements of Dubstep, Hip-Hop, and Rock. It was her most creative, innovative, personal album yet and it didnt have groundbreaking sells but with the right promotion she went on to sell 3million albums when it was just expected to go Gold. Im going to leave it at that.

First of all, The Fame sold 1kk. Then she released The Fame Monster. In US, she re-released The Fame as The Fame Monster and she also released an EP called The Fame Monster. TFM (EP) has sold around 1.5KK and the TFM (album) has sold the same thing. TFM sold around 3kk and with TF it sold 4kk.

there is an opportunity for Rihanna to do the right thing and Credit the fan for creating a cool name when all her “creative people” couldnt think of one
because whoever made the call to use the name and stiff the fan KNOWS they made
