Soulful songstress Adele has much cause for celebration this week; after her hotly anticipated sophomore set ’21’ hit #1 in a whopping 16 countries. Not one for complacence, though, the British Grammy winner stopped by BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge today for a spine-tingling live set, which included a cover of Cheryl Cole‘s smash ‘Promise This’.

The jokes clearly write themselves here. Cheryl’s original couldn’t hold a candle to this. Something I suspect Adele and her team cheekily knew and played on from the outset. In any case, stunning performance!

#1 in sixteen countries! I’m so proud of her! I guess talent does win out in the end for some people. I hope this becomes a recurring thing, TALENTED people making QUALITY music actually achieving commercial success.
And I listened to 21, and while I’ve yet to truly absorb the album, I don’t think it’s premature to say that it is BRILLIANT. Best album of the year so far.

If she hadnt sang a cheryl cole song… adele wouldnt get a mention on here. Adele is a better singer then cheryl cole obviously, if cheryl didnt have the looks she does, no one would be intrested in her singing voice at all. Shows, just how far looks will get you in the music industry, shes a great example of this.

Adele can sing in comparison to Cheryl “Lip Syncing Chezza” Cole. Problem is she’s a BORING bland singer. She would be perfect if this was the 90’s. The folksy ballad pop singer is a dozen years from where her era is supposed to be. Sigh, yaaawn.

Actually Sam, Adele said she wanted to do the song because she is a huge fan of Cheryl’s and that she really loves her, and even though Adele is cleary a better singer than Cheryl the original version is much better. Sam you would be respected alot more as a serious blogger if you tried to show reasonable and contructive criticism as oppose to just throwing shade all the time. It makes you look bitter and unprofessional.

Adele is CLEARLY a better singer than Chezza (who can’t sing at all!) why do people have to mention Adeles appearance? whats that got to do with her being an amazing artist or not. You have to remember that before Chezza made it … she had a lot of work done on herself to help her career (hair extensions, dental correction/ whitening, falsh lashes etc…unfortunately no singing lessons!).
I personally think that Adele is a beautiful, deep, soulful girl! so for all you haters lay off her! 21 is an amazing album!
