The X Factor ‘Twist’ Revealed

Last week’s episode of the X Factor not only saw the live show finalists announced, but also the reveal of a big ‘twist’. While it was widely believed the lid would be lifted on the “shocker” this weekend, ITV have sprung a surprise by disclosing it early. A move, no doubt, designed to ensure high ratings for this weekend’s premiere live shows.

What is the ‘twist’? Find out after the jump…

According to the broadcaster, the twist will see FOUR acts axed on Sunday’s elimination show – taking the total 16 contestants down to 12 the very first week.

That’s not all. For, it won’t be the general public who decide who goes home this time – it’ll be the judges. Kelly, Gary, Tulisa, and Louis, will each have to pick 3 out of their 4 acts to continue in the competition. Effectively, giving the current 16 just one shot on Saturday to prove their worthiness to compete.

Speaking to the hopefuls upon telling them the news, Rowland said:

“We want you to put your best foot forward, make the decision hard for us and let us know why you need to stay.”

The X Factor live shows debut tomorrow on ITV1 at 7.30pm, with the results show airing Sunday at 8pm.

Oft displeased with the voting choices of the show’s ‘television’ audience, putting the power in judges hands may prove crucial for talented acts who haven’t been afforded as much coverage as some of the more controversial/made-for-TV contestants. Then again, this is the X Factor, hence it’s as good as certain that there’ll be at least one ‘WTF’ decision made. As long as the likes of Mischa Bryan, Nu Vibe,  Sophie Habibis, and Ameilia stick around, I’m good.

I don’t care that much for the older people category , i like the boys & the girls … especially james michael and marcus .

X factor needs to stop with the gimmicks and stop playing with people’s emotions and lives, just for audience ratings.
I think this new twist is quite cruel and unnecessary.

I see they’re trying to get more people to watch. They try to make it extra dramatic or add a little twist.

Wow! They are putting the judges to work! I genuinely hope Johnny Robinson is sacked.

I don’t like how they play with the contestants emotions.
