Drake’s ‘Take Care’ Debuts At #1

Published: Wednesday 23rd Nov 2011 by David

All hail King Drake!

For, anyone who ever doubted how his latest album ‘Take Care’ would fare upon its release may find themselves mincing their words today.

You guessed it.

As of today, the album is #1 on the Billboard 200.

Find out how much he sold this week below…

631,000 units.

Netting the third-largest sales week of 2011 for a fully priced album (since Amazon were selling  copies of Lady GaGa‘s ‘Born This Way‘ for $0.99), the LP has exceed the first week figure scored by its predecessor ‘Thank Me Later‘ ,which debuted with 447,000 units sold.

Unlikely to hold the #1 position for a second week- with Michael Buble‘ and Adele both snapping at his heels with their respective projects, the album is yet to spawn a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 and but  that is expected to change now its lead number of the same name has debuted at #4 on the chart this week.

What a tangled web the music industry weaves.

While this week will see Rihanna fail at scoring a #1 album with ‘Talk That Talk‘, even with 5 #1 singles released in the last year, the likes of Drake and Nicki Minaj find themselves doing the opposite.

Charting poorly on the singles front but  stifling the competition when it comes to selling LP’s.

Ironic, as both Rappers were  snubbed by the singer at one time or another in the earlier days of their careers.

The only question we have to ask is this:

Who’s laughing now?”

Your thoughts?

    #APPLAUDS

    CONGRATS DRAKE!!!

THIS JUST PROVES THAT YOU ARE INEVITABLY AN ALBUMS ARTIST AFTER ALL …….

TWO ALBUMS RELEASED IN THE PAST THREE YEARS WITH DEBUT SALES OF 400K PLUS SCANNED>>>>>>>AMAZING

I WISH I COULD SAY THE SAME FOR ANOTHER ARTIST WHO, ON HER 6TH ALBUM, HAS

    #FAILED#

    ONCE AGAIN!!!

NOW HONESTLY- CLEARLY THE ARTIST WITH ONLY TWO TOP 5 SINGLES ON THE HOT 100 CHART IS MUCH MORE “RELEVANT” THAN THE ONE WITH 11 NUMBER ONE SINGLES AND HAS BEEN MAKING MUSIC SINCE 2005???????

    #LMFAO

I HOPE THE GOATS STOP BEING COCKY TOWARDS EVERYBODY CAUSE GOD DOESNT SLEEP 😆 😈

  7. DOPEOR NOPE November 23, 2011

Congrats drake.. You better say thank you to birdman tho hahaha this gets a BIG NOPE! cus your soft as hell still & you want Nicki minaj so bad but she don’t want no soft ass n**** who comes at girls like lil Kim.. But can’t come at people

  10. Gilberto November 23, 2011

Wow! It’s more than all Rihanna’s album TOGETHER! LOL. TTT is a flop.

  11. TruthTeller November 23, 2011

Almost 100K below the 725K estimates. Procing again that once needs to wait till final results.

    @Gilberto,

  14. obvi November 23, 2011

  16. TruthTeller November 23, 2011

TGJ is in real need of a d*** in their mouth.
Loud wasn’t number 1 yet it outsold ThankMeLater IN THE US & WW.
TTT will probably do just the same thing.

  17. PYTFROMAL November 23, 2011

Sam, you’re reaching as usual. Rihanna has never debuted with large numbers first week, however, her albums have proven that they have longevity. Loud debuted with 207K and has now sold 6 million ww. Thank Me Later and Pink Friday debuted with higher first week sales over Loud but Loud outsold both and is still doing well. Really don’t see your point! You just seem slighly bitter is all. Just saying 🙂

  18. KAT DELUNA FAN November 23, 2011

LMAO YOU SHOULD COMPARE RIHANNA FIRST 2 ALBUMS WITH DRAKE FIRST TWO ALBUMS TO BE FAIR.SAM IS NOT REACHING

    RIHANNA TREATED DRAKE LIKE S***

DRAKE IS UNKNOWN WW CAUSE HE IS A NEWCOMER.LET COMPARE THEM ON THEIR 6TH ALBUM 😆

  19. mesa_mese November 23, 2011

I believe it!! Drake has a strong fanbase if some people don’t believe it or not. He’s the hot guy at the moment and for a guy who didn’t do any promo that’s really good….he’s talented he deserves it.

  20. ME November 23, 2011

DAMN MAN GET OFF RIHANNA S***!! Dude always gotta find away to mention Rihanna in his post. All Promo Is good promo!!!

  21. Girrrl November 23, 2011

I believe those numbers. The album got great reviews and the chicks love emotional Drake. I know I do.

  22. HaterzStayPressed November 23, 2011

To all of you that claim Baby is buying Drake’s albums don’f know s*** about the industry and how sales are tabulated. You don’t know how s*** is shipped to retail, lot box pricing, etc. Please sit down because you’re looking real dumb right now. *sigh*

Baby is about the bottom line which is MONEY. It isn’t conducive to his pockets to cheat himself dang! Come on ya’ll! Just get over the fact that YOUNG MONEY CASH MONEY is the biggest label right now! They are not only winning – they have WON. End of discussion!

    Congrats to Drake!

And I don’t know how Rihanna got brought up into this conversation. lol. If Rihanna is up in this convo, shall we bring Beyonce into it as well? Number one FLOP album (has NOT scanned 1 million copies YET – only SHIPPED platinum) and not one top 15 hot 100 single. Are you going to talk about that TGJ? Or are you going to spin it to make it look like Beyonce is winning?

See that? No reason for me to bring Beyonce into this but I did it to prove a point. Why bring any of these people into a Drake post?

    #messyshit

  23. JohnVidal November 23, 2011

2 or 3 months ago when people were speculating about November sales I already predicted the goat didn´t have a chance with Justin Beiber, Michael Buble, Drake and others releasing albums that month! And here it is.
Although I have to say I expected 300,000-450,000 copies. Not 630,000. He did great. I would love to see some more other artists doing these numbers (only talented ones of course)

  24. KERRON November 23, 2011

Why does sam have to tie every post around rihanna its like so ridic now.

    really get a f****** life

  25. racks November 23, 2011

    i like it

  26. KERRON November 23, 2011

WOW yall Mary’s album is climbing on itunes, its now #4, monday it was #10, so she mite do better than that 150,000 prediction

  27. pop royalty ( RUDE BOY) November 23, 2011

no one care about #1 albums in US but TGJ team !!

this dude is not even a WW SUPERSTAR !! only a LOCAL ACT in US !

rihanna albums aren’t about first week sales or being #1 in US ” they are already #1 in a lot of places” , RIHANNA ALBUMS HAS something called Longevity !

call me when your fav(s) sell 6 million copies ww sam !!

    WHO’S LAUGHING NOW ?!

it is rihannanavy , cuz ppl are still that stupid and dumb !! no one care about first week sales or #1 albums in US !!

we ” the navy” focus on longevity !!

all hail QUEEN SLAYADELE ! NOW THAT’S THE REAL B**** ! THAT B**** RIGHT THERE IS THE TRUTH !

  28. KAT DELUNA FAN November 23, 2011

    @HATERZSTAYPRESSED
mmm It makes sens to bring Rihanna cause Drake is supposed to outsell her in his second week 😕

lt was pretty evident.Normally rih should outsold drake because :
    -She is a veteran
    -She has more hit single
-she is more popular than him

TGJ is not hating just making a point;it’s really strange to see TC outsells TTT in this second week 😕

  29. Ms Lovely November 23, 2011

The Rihanna stans need to stop lying about them album sales! Loud has only sold 5mil+ worldwide and 1.5 domestically. Congrats to Drake achieving he’s 2nd #1 album(something Rihanna still can’t do after 6 tries). Both Drake and Nicki have both outsold Rihanna in America(the biggest music market in the world), where it matters most. It’s sad that after 6 albums in America, Rihanna has only 1 mufti-platium album(GGGB, that had to be re-released)

  30. Lax November 23, 2011

Good for drske he deserves it he works
hard, hes Talented, Handsome and a Young “gent”
Ha, Ha ,, Ha With a Label i respect and he is Well Respected.

  31. Ms Lovely November 23, 2011

LMAO @ Rihanna stans still making up foolish excuses. Sorry to bust your bubbles, But having successful album in America(the biggest music market ) does matter. I mean how can you claim to be a worldwide music superstar, and you still can’t slay in the biggest music market in the world?!? Don’t get mad at Drake and Nicki for being able to secure a #1 album, blame your fave(Rihanna) for putting out shitty music.

  32. Lax November 23, 2011

Haters r still a dime a dozen ha, ha, ha.

  33. Jayla November 23, 2011

U DUMB f*** have no clue, why would someone by their own albums just to prove something to u people, that doesn’t even make sense. you people sound so ignorant and i’m just going to assume you are teenagers with nothing better to do but hate. Take Care was trending and Anticipated forever, so i dont know why its a surprise he sold that much, Believe me us “straight” people cant believe Gaga sold a million, but we dont hate and make up dumb ass assumptions like she bought her own albums. Like its not that important as u f*** make it seem to have huge 1st week sales, like thats all yall care about is the charts and s***, get a life and stop worrying about these celebrities pockets.

  34. Jayla November 23, 2011

    @HaterzStayPressed

    PREACH!!!! they have no clue!

  35. Guess What November 23, 2011

My only question is how many did Baby buy? I know for a fact he buys records. That label is so phony.

  36. Get Real November 23, 2011

So i say again…Drake pulls 650k while others struggle to even get 200k. Hmmm…..?

  37. wow November 23, 2011

YOOO u really NEED to stop SUCKING RIHANNA”S C***>>>FALLL BACK WTF

  38. FN_S November 23, 2011

I dont care what nobody says Cash Money got some shady s*** going on over there… There is no way in HELL Wayne and Drake sold that many records… I actually like both artist but hell to the no… Something aint right… Lls

  39. laos November 23, 2011

everythings fixed in the music industry, rihanna is doing well on itunes, shes been number one for a couple days now, and lets not forget her last album is selling more than gagas and beys, and we know talk that talk will outsell 4. so if talk that talk is a flop, then beyonce is definetly a loser! with her fake ass pregnancy!

  40. jamir21 November 23, 2011

I dont believe that Drake sold that many records

    SOMETHINGS FISHY 🙁

  41. ADC143 November 23, 2011

LOL I love how distressed and defensive the Rihtards have been these past couple days over this. I knew this would be a hard week for you all and I’m sitting back drinking it all up! This is great! TTT flopped. No talent ass Rihanna is getting upstaged by people left and right.

    Let the crowd say AMEN!

  42. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) November 23, 2011

“All hail King Drake” LMFAO…I didn’t know if a blank stare or a giggle was more appropriate to be honest… 😆 When did Drake become a TGJ favorite?

Anyway, there was no doubt he was going to have a successful first week, but the longetivity in the charts is the aspect that I call into question even after his sales being 100k more than my prediction. It will be definetely interesting to see the 3rd and the 4th week.He will be platinum by the end of the year, though, that’s for sure.

  43. YOOSONDALOOSE November 23, 2011

    Well done, great album!

  44. laos November 23, 2011

how has ttt flopped and its only been a couple days, i guess it doesnt matter that her last album is still going strong-selling more than gagme and beyawnces cd, we found love is number one for the 4th week in a row, take care ft rihanna debuts in the top 10 and you da one is at 14, loud is close to 6 million copies, and we all know damn well that talk that talk will outsell nickelbaks new album in the long run, and will definetly outsell 4!

  45. ADC143 November 23, 2011

B**** only sold 180-200k. She’s had the #1 single in the country for weeks, but STILL convince the buying public that her whole ALBUM was worth scooping. Don’t act brand new. That’s a flop, and you know it. No one trusts Rihanna past 99cent downloads.

    TTT = Flop.

  46. DON’T WORRY BOUT RIHANNA, WORRY ABOUT YOUR FAVES FLOPPING! November 23, 2011

    #1 albums don’t mean S***!

Britney had a #1 album. Only sold about 700k so far.

Gaga had a #1 album that she CHEATED to get by practically GIVING AWAY her cd! I don’t think she’s crossed the 2 million mark in the US yet!

Beyonce had a #1 album and is doing desperation tactics to stay relevant(e.g. fake pregnancy) because none of her singles have been hits and nobody but her diehard stans are feeling her so-called “new” sound.

Chris Brown had a #1 album and his teenage fanbase couldn’t charge enough on their parents credit cards to get him to platinum status.

Watch the Toilet had a #1 album and it sold only a little better than Beyonce’s.

I’d rather have #1 singles because that’s what people are buying today than #1 albums that FLOP in the end.

  47. antertain November 23, 2011

I love TJG team. Just shake the rattle toy to the #RihannaNavy and they come running LOL.

congrats to Drake and his album. Got mine in the London 2day.
I’m so, i’m so, I’m so, I’m so, I’m’ so proud of you

  48. NaQu November 23, 2011

^ You are a simple b****. Only a complete moron would rather have a number one single (that retails for approximately a dollar) over a number album (that retails for approximately $10.)

Rihanna is a singles act and it’s funny. The general public doesn’t trust her enough to believe that her music is worth spending more money…which is embarrassing, considering all the number one singles she’s had. All those chart toppers and people would still only throw 4 quarters are her for one song at a time. No.

  49. tyra November 23, 2011

So u telling me having 11 number 1 singles on the billboard chart the biggest music market n the world is more importana than getting a number 1 album plz the navy can’t pick and choose which charts are important a us number 1 album is majorly important

  50. DONT TRY IT B**** November 23, 2011

B****** PLEASE! Yall h*** always say the things that your aren’t important put as soon as it happens yall b****** can’t be quiet, YALL STANS NEED TO QUIT.

  51. DON’T WORRY BOUT RIHANNA, WORRY ABOUT YOUR FAVES FLOPPING! November 23, 2011

We’ll see whose laughing when the final WW figures for TTT come in. Just bcuz Rihanna’s not a frontloaded artist dosent mean she won’t outsell some of these #1 albums in the end!

AND, singles ARE important bcuz hardly anyone buys albums anymore. It IS better to have #1 singles on a album that has steady sales rather than a #1 album that has NO HITS and ends up FLOPPING!

  52. DMWN November 23, 2011

Rihanna doesn’t have a “Navy.” If she did, her getting a #1 album would happen easily. Rihanna just has casual buyers who only trust her as far as singles go, or if they do decide to buy her album they do it very sluggishly. Unlike Drake, she doesn’t have many good faith followers who trust her enough to buy her album without having heard it. The bottom line is that what Linda Perry said about Katy Perry applies to Rihanna too. Like Katy, RiRi serves microwavable popcorn. Few are interested in having her cook a whole meal for them.

Like I said, the “navy” doesn’t exist. It’s just a few silly stans who talk a bunch of big s*** but can’t back it up when all eyes are watching.

  53. DMWN November 23, 2011

No it is not better to have a #1 single over a #1 album. The whole point of singles are to provide samplers of the album to drive ALBUM SALES. If you can convince a skeptical public to buy your album without any big hit singles, then that’s more impressive and singles become unnecessary.

Rihanna is like that lady who stands in the grocery store handing out free samples to customers who eat them up, but don’t wind up buying the actual product.

  54. It’s just business as usual November 23, 2011

I’m sure Rihanna will release album no. 7 around this time next year, assuming she doesn’t get dropped from Def Jam or move to another label, to try to make up for this era if Talk That Talk flops worse than Rated R.

  55. Cray November 23, 2011

I’m not gonna drag the Rihann but dang!!! All i gotta say is IN YOUR FACE N**** *justice burns, don’t it*

  56. KERRON November 23, 2011

But can some tell me how did Rihanna snub Nicki Minaj????

i never heard that story before?

  57. SAM IS AN UNDERCOVER RIHANNA STAN November 23, 2011

I see Rihanna’s got you hot and bothered now that she’s more popular than Fake Mommy to Be Bumponce. Your fave releasing singles left and right and they all flopped! Didn’t even release the last single except on her DVD cause she knew only her diehard stans would bother to watch the video and that it would fail miserably like all the other songs she’s released this era. *SMH*. Accept that Fake Jugs McCreole’s time in the sun is done and over and stop taking out your frustrations on Rih-Rih, who will do quite well in spite of your pretend hatred for her.

  58. CzarM November 23, 2011

    You know what’s gonna happen:
This album is going to flop like Rated R. “We Found Love” is its “Rude Boy”, but people will just buy the single, and not the album. Sales will remain unimpressive and then around next August Def Jam will announce that yet another rushed, soulless Rihanna album that jumps on bandwagons and trends is coming in time for the holiday shopping season; but despite it being released at a time when everyone is shopping for new music, she will for the umpteenth time have trouble convincing the buying public that her album is the ‘one’ to buy over all others and will have to settle for a #2 or #3 spot.

    Rinse and repeat.

    Story of Rihanna’s career.

  59. KAT DELUNA FAN November 23, 2011

    @ KERRON
Lt was because of the LGOE Tour. When ppl asked her about it she said something like :” who ? no, *shady laugh* l am not going on tour with nicki,l am going with Kesha”.

  60. Steph November 23, 2011

I dont particularly like Riri, but I believe in honesty ( and as much as I like Sam) I have to say LOUD has sold over 8 million copies to date worldwide and first week sales is not a final indication of an album’s success. It definitely helps though. All the stats are on wikipedia…research first b4 judging. and don’t believe everything the mass media publishes.
Congrats Drake, much love from Toronto Canada, we passed by when you were about to walk into HMV during the launch of you album! The sales figures don’t surprise me. congrats again

  61. Onyx November 23, 2011

I told you these days people put on a pedestal some girls like Justin Bieber or Drake but forget artists like MJB or Rihanna, these days kids buy albums and singles, we adults are too busy 4 that.

  62. Wappy November 23, 2011

Congratulations to Drake, his music is amazing and enthralling. As for Rihanna, too bad for her, but didnt the album released like two days ago?Yet, what’s going on with Rihanna and TGJ? Does Rihanna pay you for publicity? Or what? Why didnt you mention that Mary J also failed to grab the #1 spot? Why didnt you mention that WFL has been #1 for a month?

And, answering your question: who’s is laughing now? Well, I don’t know, but your shade towards Rihanna has turned out to be a little perversive lately .

One more thing: those of you who say that are tired of her, I wonder, how can that be? I mean, do you get bored of your kids and/or husband/wife too? How can you get tired of someone you don´t even know?

Someone please, answer me, I’m new to this site and I want to join, but I’m not sure if I want to be part of a site that throws thrash to other in order to remain “relevant”, even worse, a site that incites you to do the same.

  64. mobwife November 23, 2011

I just don’t think these numbers are “legit”! Like Lil Wayne, I think there is a lot of behind the scenes” maneuvering” that occured to get these numbers. I like Drake but the promotion for this CD has been little to none and it faired better then his 1st? Naw partner, I think some “monkey business” is going on. Mack Mane (YM CEO) and Birdman (CMB CEO) have made a number of CD purchases I bet.

Damn, I remember when this sort of thing wasn’t even an issue. Now I look sideways at anything that sounds crazy in this bought and paid for music industry!

  65. RatedX(basic broads favs) November 23, 2011

how did j cole and wale have a bigger buzz than drake?

drake has a bigger fan base than booth j cole and wale combine..and he also has a boss who actually spends money to promote him,…drake has been on everybodys record..

wheres j cole and wale buzz at?

yes of course, bird man buys all his artists albums…rolls eyes..i mean damn..bitter b**** syndrome

  66. ERIC November 23, 2011

SO GLAD FOR HIM! “TAKE CARE” IS AMAZING!

  67. RatedX(basic broads favs) November 23, 2011

the record companies who buys their artist albums, are the ones who pushes these peoples down our throat, meaning they want people to think these artist are bigger than they are…

i can name 5 people who this s*** applies to….and the number 1. person is the biggest fraud in the music industry…..

  68. ummm November 23, 2011

damn the first 3 comments were PURE HATE like thats sad if you bought the CD you would see it was quality work WOW

  69. PaigeJ November 23, 2011

Good for Drake. All I know is I bought the album and its great. Practice, Crew Love and Underground Kings are my favorite. I still think Thank Me Later is better but this album is more chilled and laid back whereas TML was the complete opposite.

Its a shame for Goatanna though LMAO #poorwoman

  71. tyra November 23, 2011

Why would a. Recoord company buy their own albums that makes no financial sense whatsoever and to someone who try imply beyonce record compnay buy her albums fail is she can get 100 million dollar plus gross tour I’m sure She can sell an album. As for rihanna loud album its sold 6 million not 8 million well personally I thought with the sucess of wfl ttt would sell like hotcakes but I was wrong cause you dah one is like number 39 on itunes right now I don’t think the song will be a massive hit in terms of sales I dnt think ttt is gona be big like loud I think the eras clashing confused ppl so instead of buying ttt they are buying loud

  72. aisha aguilera keys November 23, 2011

That’s weird, Sam. I’m not saying this to bother you or anything, but in a previous post Drake said Riri was the first to talk to him, a nobody.

  73. aisha aguilera keys November 23, 2011
