Cover Star: Chanel Nicole Covers Fantasia’s ‘Without Me’

This week’s That Grape Juice Cover Star comes from Chanel Nicole – the New York singer/songwriter making a splash on Youtube.  Press ‘PLAY’ below to see Nicole cover Fantasia‘s Kelly Rowland-enlisted hit ‘Without Me’ – the second single from her 4th album ‘Side Effects Of You’ (in stores now).

Yes, ma’am Miss Nicole.  We can get with this.

Packing a very radio-friendly voice, Chanel conveyed the song’s sass in a way that seemed authentic and devoid of caricature.  While a few noticeable misfired runs and notes, overall the presentation was pleasant and provided indication that with fine tuning Chanel could shine with the new school of R&B chanteuses.

I cant take away the fact that she can sing, but radio friendly voice = non original voice. Maybe singing her own music she sounds original.
