This whole songwriting thing is pretty pathetic. I don’t pretend to know how many credits Beyonce has earned by actually writing lyrics but I think the issue is too complex for people to just make assumptions when they don’t have all of the information. Lyricists like Neo may want to get all of the credit because they wrote the lyrics for a song but the TRUTH is legally, they are NOT always entitled to sole credit. “A songwriting copyright is awarded to those who jointly contributed to the song’s structure, chord progressions, and lyrics. This can be anyone, even the members of the rhythm section (in many songs — especially in rock, pop, and dance music — a bass or drum part is so integral to the song that it becomes as important as the melody.” Even the person who came up with the idea or concept for a song (although they did not actually write the lyrics) may be entitled to songwriting credits; and let’s not even get into editing possibilities. People can accuse Beyonce and so many other artists of stealing songwriting credits all day long but I haven’t heard about any successful lawsuits. Just another way to criticize someone who is talented, hard-working, and successful.

I believe the lawsuits are overturned because of a pay off. It wouldnt make sense to release a song after Beyonce has already finalized a version, so the best thing to do is sue to be paid in hopes of settling out of court.

By the way, the cases you cited above do not have anything to do with songwriting credits and could have easily been caused by technical oversights by Beyonce’s team. No one is perfect or above technical oversights no matter how many people are working on their team because it’s still just people and they can make mistakes that need to be corrected. Considering how long she’s been in the business, I don’t think there has been that many issues. But oversights and immorality are two different things. I still say there’s no proof or reason to assume the latter.
I use to write negative comments about other artists but they involved my opinion regarding their song, singing, or overall performance talent. Now I try not to post negative comments but even when I did I always tried to avoid assumptions about any artist when I don’t have all of the information. Let’s face it, we are outsiders and I’m not going to make judgments against anyone on these types of issues when there’s no way for me to make a fully informed one. You would not appreciate someone/strangers making accusations against you based on what someone else said, without having personal knowledge or information. That’s immoral in my opinion.

Beyonce never claimed to write “If I were a Boy”. I specifically remember Beyonce talking about the song before it was release and she was talking about how she was working with Toby Gad and he had all these songs that she wasn’t feeling. And he told her he had another song called “If I were a Boy” but he didn’t think she would like it because it wasn’t her typical style but he played it for her, she loved it, so she recorded it. The real reason BC Jean sued Beyonce because she didn’t know that Beyonce would be singing the song she wrote, but she had sold the song to Toby Gad therefore he had the right to give it to anyone he pleased.

It isn’t fair comparing those albums when they were released on different situations. When Beyoncé’s released DIl, the music industry was already in a big decline.
It’s like saying Paula Abdul’s career is more succesful than Rihanna’s, for exemple, ’cause Paula Abdul’s debut sold more than all Rihanna’s album in US. AND WE KNOW IT ISN’T TRUE.
Since Beyoncé’s debut, she has been shitting on Britney Spears’ face. And now there’s also Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry and even Ke$ha at this point, making her dated!
Bottom line, both Beyonce and Britney have enjoyed a lot of success. Not really a big Britney fan but I like some of her songs. I wouldn’t waste my time going back and forth about which one has had the most success, it really depends on how you measure or define success. Both ladies seem to have solid fan bases and will probably continue to do well.

Me being the Britney fanatic that I am, I can admit that I prefer her to lipsynch. She’s still awesome and I don’t need to explain myself on why she is.
