Britney burns up the charts in terms of her singles and then her album comes out and not even 300 000 people bought it first week. That in my book puts her in the same group as Rihanna and JLO!!
And then in comes gaga who gets 10 million to make a video and it comes out looking like it didnt even cost a million to make, and then her album sells for less than a dollar and then she sells a million plus first week and 3 weeks in she hasnt even sold 1.5 million copies. I mean seriously now, what the hell?
Beyonce has now sold 7 million copies of Sasha fierce and she hasnt nearly had the per album bilboard 100 chart success of RIhanna or gaga! She sells cause ultimately she isnt a singles artist and has never been. Out of 3 albums she has only had 5 number 1’s, why are we acting like she always hits number 1?
Gaga’s first album sold like 12 million copies or something and beyonce’s first album sold 11 million so let’s not even go there.

Just pre-ordered ‘4’ on I-Tunes after listening to Youtube previews & snippets that reaffirmed my plans to buy it. Most previews are positive and I love the vibe/sound of the album. When I clicked on pre-order I got an I-Tunes message saying I already pre-ordered it and asking if I wanted to order it again. Maybe when I bought 1+1 a while back that was an automatic pre-order of the album??? You automatically get 1+1 if you pre-order the CD, but did not think it was also vice-versa. Anyway, Beyonce took some risks with this CD and I think music lovers will be pleased because it’s NOT like the generic, recycled songs we hear on the radio that sometimes manage to crash into the number one Billboard spot for a week and burn, causing the artist to drop the next single so fast that we can’t even remember what that previous song was, so none of them really generate a lot of album sales although people bought the single (Glad Adele has been able to break or pause that cycle). The songs on Beyonce’s album have potential to be classic or reccuring jams. I’m inclined to think that some of the haters either haven’t listened to the songs with an open mind or are just hoping so hard for her to fail that they can’t admit that it’s a good album. I also think a lot of people are planning to buy the album and so they are not concerned about buying the singles. As the album gains popularity, sales for the singles will probably increase. Those who are hoping hard for a flop should brace themselves because I WOULDN’T BET ON IT.

I know some people want to leave her out of it now, but since Janet’s name keeps coming up I will take the bait. Although I am a huge Beyonce fan I will not allow those who choose to put her down just to build someone else up influence me to do the same thing to another artist. I will say that I grew up as a Janet Jackson fan and remained so in my early adulthood (she’s really not that much older than me) because of her dancing ability and she definitely has no shortage of great songs in her career, especially in the 80’s and 90’s. Not to minimize Janet’s entertainment abilities and status, but I focus a lot more on vocals at this point then I did back then and no matter what anyone wants to say about Beyonce, any honest person has to admit that she has a strong set of lungs and she uses her voice in a powerful, beautiful, and controlled manner. As far as songwriting and producing goes, Prince is one of the few artists who did ALL of the writing, arranging, and producing for ALL of the songs BY HIMSELF, album after album, so many albums with a lot classics that even I (one of his biggest fans) lost count (@SHESDUMB, I wouldn’t put anyone in the same category with Prince, he is a legendary unique musical genius). So many other artists have writers or co-writers and producers for a lot of their songs and in most cases we really don’t know how big or small their personal contribution was for each song. The bottom line is, Beyonce has recorded a lot of great songs and me and countless others enjoy listening to her sing AND she can light up the stage with energy and choreography that includes more than just the sexualized moves that some of you only want to give her credit for. Anyway, it all comes back to vocal ability for me. Fine, give Janet credit as it is due, but there’s no need to discredit Beyonce in the process.
