Adele‘s gargantuan success has seen her roll up and smoke much of her chart competition this year. However, also elevating her status is Katy Perry, who too, has enjoyed record breaking achievements over the last 10 months.
Paying tribute to her fellow chart-topper, Perry took a stab at te Brit’s global smash ‘Someone Like You’ during the Sheffield stop of her ‘California Dreams Tour’ earlier this week. The 26 year old’s rendition was incorporated into her performance of ‘The One That Got Away’.

Beyond the candy-coloured wigs, cone boobs, and all that jazz, it’s easy to forget that Ms. Perry actually carries a very respectable set of pipes. A surprisingly pleasant rendition. Not a patch on the original, but it never going to be. We like.

Katy Perry singing Adele? What a FAIL. Katy can barely sing her less than average vocal performances, what makes her think she could sing this song, where you need to be able to actually sing.
I like Katy, but she should never do this. UK X Factor contestants are singing her songs so much better than her, Kelly Rowland even said several times “Katy who?”

But again what Rihanna, Katy Perry and similars like Madonna and Kesha can do vocally anyone can do.
Because screeching and yelling isn’t respectable singing. They are simply adding a vibrato to their talking voices and elevating their volume.
Very few can do what Christina Aguilera, Bey, and Gaga can do vocally.
But props to KP didn’t think she could pull this off after all her disastrous performances for “Firework.”
People seem to forget that Katy Perry was actually a legit musician before she became a popstar. She wrote and still writes her own material, wrote for other artists, worked the NYC bars, went on tour at 16 years old with just her and her guitar and was trying to make it for 2-3 years in LA. Her unreleased songs and her debut Christian album show that she has great musical ear and taste apart from her pop stuff right now.
So even if she fails as a popstar in about 2 years, she still has something to fall back on – her musicianship. Other popstars however like Britney and Rihanna have nothing to fall back on. If only she’d stop smoking though…

Okay, but that song is Adele’s. I also find it funny how the second she starts singing the entire crowd sings along more than with her own song. Nice Try Katy but stick to what you rock at: California Girls, Firework, Last Friday Night, ect. but let Adele do her thing!
