US Invasion: The Saturdays Perform ‘What About Us’ On ‘Leno’

Published: Tuesday 15th Jan 2013 by Sam

British starlets The Saturdays are gearing up for the launch of their E! reality series ‘Chasing The Saturdays’ – which premieres this Sunday. And so as to warm up the American audience to their sassy brand of Brit-Pop, the ladies performed on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno yesterday.

How did they fare on the episode, which also saw Nicki Minaj guest? Watch their performance of US debut ‘What About Us’ below to find out!

Decent enough for a first showing. Rochelle remains “that chick” (pregnancy and all), while the other ladies held their own for the most part. The so-so vocals of lead singer Vanessa these days is beginning to worry. Nonetheless, she still serves as the vocal  glue of the group – even if that’s more in the studio than live.

It’ll be interesting to see if the US audience take to them in the way they have the likes of One Direction and The Wanted.

Decent… but looks like one of them rarely had the mic up to her mouth at all…

They’re all GORGEOUS AS F*** but they need to step their vocal game up.

Personally, I think ‘The Saturdays’ have more personality and stronger performance-ability than ‘Little Mix’ but ‘Little Mix’ are much better vocally – harmonies, technique and all.

Still, I’m routing for them. I see ‘The Saturdays’ are getting the American Pre-Teens and Teens on their side already… Their performance at a L.A Mall was sold out yesterday.

Excited for them now… they need to showcase their vocals on an acoustic version, jus to prove to America they can actually sing and harmonize to a great standard… but a good debut none the less

Rochelles vocals remind me of Kelly Rowland. The preformance was flat and something was missing. They also looked as tacky as hell.

disappointed at Vanessa and Rochelle, they sung this so much better in the clubs.

No amount of pushing and shoving is going to make these ho’s happen. Please let it go.

    Not impressed. Bad debut performance.

I know they can do better after seeing this performance. heck Mollie sounded the best live which is strange as Vanessa, Rochelle and Una seem to be the better vocalists of the group

I dont know what happened with Una on this performance but she was off key a few times. which surprised me because she is always the one with the perfect pitch even when the others aren’t…. anyways, I think it was the nerves getting the best of them.

right now, all girl groups will be compared to dk in my eyes bc tey were the last successful girl group to come out and we all saw how they were formed. in comparison, these 5 girls have potential, BUT they need some more fine tuning. as oppose to singing together, try actually harmonizing to sound like one voice. the choreography is very lackluster and corny, for non dancers. they need to learn how to “fake dance” like what brandy or christina aguilera does or any other artist that cannot dance, but fakes it really well.

No offense but they will flop. I don’t see it for “groups” right now in the US…

I’m sure the back to back pregnancies have had an effect on group camaraderie. I would be pissed, let me tell you, if two heifers in my group got pregnant back to back while we are trying to make a mark on the US market. Birth control? Have you ever heard of it?! Yes?! USE IT. Have a baby after we have a number 1 album.

I’ve heard better from them. And I mean that single -wise as well as live performance.

Maybe they should have waited until the next baby dropped before dropping a new album. But the TV show is a great way of trying to stay relevant and building a fan base at the same time.

They are the cutest indeed. But unless P. Diddy and Boomkack get involved, they’ll head back home in no time.

Anyway honorable shout out to the fierce pregnant sista! Gurl, you better represent for the likes of Mel B, Shaznay Lewis and Keisha Buchanan. Werk!

Don’t see these chicks being popular over here but whatever……

These girls are just awful. They can’t sing. They can’t dance!. They don’t look like much. I just found out they have a reality show….I vomited just a little in my mouth. Think I’m jiving? Compare them to Danity Kane.
