Fifth Harmony waste no time pushing their latest single ‘Boss’, flinging its music video to the masses days after releasing the sassy number!
The thing is, while we’re completely behind the ladies’ “pro-girl” approach, we can’t say their new sound is the direction they should be heading in, not helped by a video which does very little to appease their pre-teen audience.
For, as tempting as “spicing it up” may seem to Pop princesses hoping to break new ground, one really should get in where they can fit in, playing it safe until they’ve garnered a fan base big enough to carry them should they then decide to switch it up.
Why we worry ‘Harmony’ are getting it terribly wrong?

However, as hot as ‘Boss‘ is, we struggle to see who the ladies are trying to attract with the release.
We get it, they don’t want to be cookie cutter, but with a sales run that’s less than impressive, we’d say the cut and its Pussycat Doll-lite visual is unlikely to do anything for them.
Put simply, though they may think their new look and sound makes them seem edgy, all they’re really doing is alienating the audience they should be aiming for while coming off as complete try-hards to girls who think their ‘X-Factor’ affiliation makes them corny.
What we’d do if tasked with handling the girls?
Turn them into five candy coated Aaliyah‘s with Jeremy Scott-inspired styling (edgy yet inoffensive) while rocking the worlds of their fans with ‘Seventeen’-approved party jams and ballads akin to the ones below.

Are you blind or just crazy? That video is epic and is exactly what they needed to get the intended young adult age group to like them. If you even look at the comments on the video, many of the people who didn’t even know them feel like they are the modern PCD or DK. Those videos you picked as to what they should be like is pure crap. Move along..move allonnnnnggg >.>
The new look is an improvement. I also like that they are pushing on the choreography. I also like the sound. The song is meh. Mainly because of the Obama and Oprah reference repetitiveness. Overall I think they are headed on the right direction. To whoever wrote this, you’re references/examples, at the end, are so tired. A do agree that they need a good popish ballad but that other stuff is for the birds.
The song in itself is a 2.5/5. The video is 4/5. They Slayed the choreography, and they all look gorgeous. I would like a see them sing a song like Towers by Little Mix.
Little Mix should of released Towers & Competition as a single. They Salute album is better than the DNA album, but in my opinion they have not released the best songs on the Salute album
The video suits the song, in my opinion the song does not suit 5H. TGJ their fanbase have definitely supported them so I don’t know why you are making that judgement that they have alienated their fans. Until you listen to the album it is hard to say which direction they are going, commerrcial it looks like the single is doing better than any other girl group in USA since probably Pussycat Dolls. Your fav Danity Kane would have love for their song Lemonade to be doing has well as Boss in the charts, it is still solidly in the top 20 after peaking at #6 in the itunes chart, the first weeks sales will probably sell more than any girl group in the last few years in the USA. This song will chart on Hot 100 unlike Danity Kane
The video is hot! I agree that they are trying to appeal to a older audience but it is my understanding that at least 1 of those girls is like 21…but the song is catchy and im excited to hear more material! you go girls!!
Danity Kane anyone? I like where they’re going, it’s just not original. I like how now that they’re urban, they’re pushing the urban girl aka the black girl into the front position as lead singer. Soooooo tired. They definitely ripped off PCD and DK and also, they’re competing with GRL now which, they have beat because of their voices. I just don’t agree with how they’re throwing anything at the wall to see what’ll stick. If this flops, they’ll either be dropped or back to the pop tart charts.
So edgy means naked and sexual? Oh, how things have changed. The song is okay but i’m not into these jailbaters in hotpants and push up bras looking like they’ve had bedroom skills for days.
The problem is that this isn’t growth, its simply marketing. Even though Arianda G, and Little Mix are older they aren’t this sexual. Bring back the days when you could sing, had great tunes and kept your clothes on (brandy)
