Britney Spears Eying Headline Spot At Super Bowl Halftime Show 2018

Published: Tuesday 11th Jul 2017 by Sam

Britney Spears has hit many a major stage in her time, but according to sources she has her heart set on the Super Bowl 2018.

Having expressed said desires to her team, advocates for the 35-year-old are said to have been in “secret” discussions with organizers of next year’s Halftime Show – which takes place in Minneapolis on February 4th.

The apparent thinking from Britney and her team is that she has the catalogue and the name brand, so it’ll be an attractive prospect for both viewers and advertisers. There’s reportedly talk of pairing Spears with other acts to fill the 12 minute spot.

If indeed a “go,” it’d technically be the singer’s 2nd Halftime appearance; she previously performed as a guest alongside Aerosmith and Nsync. [Source]

No. Just no.

And we say that as appreciators of Britney’s legacy. Because should she do it, she’s liable to make a permanent blotch on her legacy that can’t be removed nor glossed over.

No matter which way it’s diced or sliced, she is a shadow of a shadow of a shadow of the performer she once was. Something everyone would become privy to seeing should she be carted out to “perform.”

Even pairing her with other acts runs risk of highlighting her diminished abilities.

So, again, issa no from us.

Perhaps, in light of her love for live singing, she could kick off festivities with the US Nation Anthem?

Your thoughts?

I would be happy to see Brit, but it’s a little scary cuz she can’t dance like she used to. I wish Janet would do it!! Now that would SLAY on top of SLAY!

  3. eric July 11, 2017

    Please no.

  4. kiki July 11, 2017

No one is here for that. Anyway, she’s been a huge flop in the digital/streaming era with only 1 decent selling album (Circus). Blackout, Femme Fatale, Britney Jean, Glory were flops (BO – 2.5 in 2007 and FF – 1.7 in 2011 is horrible, the other two need no words). Her peak is massively overrated by her fans because she was never the top dog (Backstreet Boys and Santana were outselling her left and right in 1999, Eminem and The Beatles did in 2000). She was only riding on the coattails of teen pop trend set by Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys, that’s why she faded away so quickly. Everyone and their mother was going multiplatinum in the late 90s/early 00s, even Shaggy, J.Lo, Ricky Martin and even flops like Brandy, Monica etc., so her sales only look good on paper.

The delusion in the post. Her peak isn’t overrated at all, back in the 90s/ early 00’s she was IT. She might be stiff as a board now but the fact that she’s one of the best-selling artists of all time proves she was big back in the day.

Speak for yourself. I’m here for it. Super Bowl performers should represent America (good and bad) and Britney is a great fit. Like her or loathe her but she is an American story and she has the hits behind her to pull it off.

Come on Britney Jean! She’ll be lipping to the GODS, but come on lol…if Taylor gets it, she’ll be lipping too…and that NeNe GIF is everyTHANG.

  6. Trose July 11, 2017

    No. It’s j los turn

  7. Francis July 11, 2017

No! I love her catalogue, but she’s not a Super Bowl Halftime Show performer. I would agree if she danced like she used to, but that’s not the case.

If they want a 90s pop girl go with X-Tina or Pink.

    • eric July 11, 2017

Exactly my top two picks (Pink being #1)!

Ciara is a great candidate for the superbowl 2018.
She’s an electric entertainer and dancer, her singing is good, not the greatest,
but hey if Katy Perry can do the superbowl, why not.

    • Carlitos July 11, 2017

Um…Katy Perry is a mega superstar, with 9 number 1 hits from only three albums. While I love Cara, and agree that’s she’s all of the above, she doesn’t have the recognition and power for the views.

    • Jasmine July 11, 2017

Ciara would be a decent opening act for a bigger artist’s concert but she is no where near ready for a Super Bowl performance because she lacks the hits and fame former Super Bowl singers hold. If Ciara were to tour today by herself the tour would ultimately flop. She needs more hits under her belt.

Chile April Fools was three months ago…

  10. Black power July 11, 2017

Yeah it’s a no for me as welll…….. she’s stiff af on stage, she moves so damn robotic, I don’t see her doing anything innovative or over the top plus she’s not going to give live vocals

  11. Suicide Blonde July 11, 2017

    No, we want JLo.

      No, Usher!

      • Chile (Yes, the original one) July 11, 2017

Glad to see you’re still here and promoting Black power. Thanks for your tireless efforts, Tyler. You do the community a great service.

      • tyana jones July 11, 2017

        CHRIS BROWN!!!!!

  12. Jasmine July 11, 2017

I say YES! She is ready. Anyone doubting her capabilities should watch her Billboard Awards performance from last year.

    • Music lover July 11, 2017

Bwahahahahahahha Hahaahahahhahaha Hahahah,?????????????????, You are joking right? That was one hell of a mess.
You stans are just ridiculous to say the least.

      • Jasmine July 11, 2017

I’m no “stan”. I’m a realist. Just because you did not like something does not mean others did not. It is the majority that matters. 95% of the people who commented on the performance on youtube liked the performance and 92% of the people that liked or disliked the performance liked the performance. Thus, you are in the minority and if I am a “stan” for pointing out the obvious then you are an insecure “hater” for hating on it and assuming everyone that liked the performance is a stan and “ridiculous.”

I guess I’m here for it. Maybe. I haven’t commented in forever. I hope Annalise is still here.

  15. @ASAPicon July 11, 2017

Mess, Mediocre celebrity now which was once a PERFORMER, Sad. Its not in her blood, And they need to keep her locked up in Vegas

  16. tyana jones July 11, 2017

    • Jasmine July 11, 2017

No “we” don’t. Speak for yourself. I don’t want Chris Brown to perform at the super bowl.

      • tyana jones July 17, 2017

        WELL,I DO.

  17. Starxavi July 11, 2017

I’d be here for it if she spent a good 3 – 6 months preparing and nothing else! Like get your moves down pack, re record every song you plan on performing to at least give us a live feel. But really its the choreography…I will not be happy with arm movements and hairflips for 12 minutes. I love Britney and I think with the right choreographer and the right preparation this could be a good look. I never want to count her out.

  18. Liam July 11, 2017

I’m here for it she still has more stage presence than most of these current pop female stars right now…..with some new prerecorded backing vocals I wouldn’t mind

  19. Jeezy July 11, 2017

As much as I hate J-Lo….I’m pretty sure she would deliver an exceptional dance inspired halftime performance. I’m not sure her catalogue has any major pop anthems though…

At this stage its just a matter of when Rihanna is gonna get it. If she has new music dropping at the end of this year or the top of next year…im pretty sure shes almost guaranteed to get a shot.

They really are running out of options and even though we know Chris Brown would shut it down….he aint ever getting that show

    • tyana jones July 11, 2017

      he will

      • Jasmine July 11, 2017

@Tyana Chris will never get that spot because subliminally he is threatening to white men and if he performed at super bowl he could more of a s** symbol to white women. All you have to do is look at the particular artists that performed in the past. Black females are non threatening (except Janet who surprised everyone but it was only after she was booked). The black male performers (Stevie Wonder, Smokie Robinson, MJ, Usher, James Brown, and Bruno Mars (although Bruno is mostly Puerto Rican) are all non threatening. Artists like Chris Brown, who is in his prime, would never get booked because he is too similar to Bobby Brown and R. Kelly, who in their prime were threatening to white men.

  20. Caleb July 11, 2017

I don’t think she’s ready for this and it makes me think those around her dont have her best interest at heart to be pushing for this.

  21. J. July 11, 2017

No just no. I love Brit but no. Only way I can support her doing this if it turns into a 90’s throwback and she brings out Justin and *NSYNC and hell and Xtina. Give us a Mickey Mouse club reunion lol

Not sure who I want to perform this go around. No one is really amusing me this year.

  22. Jeans July 11, 2017

Bring janet as a surprise guest.

  23. Timothy July 12, 2017

You’re being a bit overdramatic. She sure as hell is not as good of a performer as she was back in her prime, but she’s still turning out amazing performances in Vegas since she started her show there a few years ago. She also proved she’s still a household performer with her BBMAs performance 2016, VMAs 2016, as well as several festival performances. Also there is nothing about Katy Perrys or Madonnas performances during Super Bowl Halftime Show that Britney couldn’t do. Performance wise she’s still above many others and with the right production and choreography she could slay it!
