As the ever-reigning Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklin‘s impact spans many a generation.
As such, it’s fitting that acts from a variety of eras will congregate on Friday (August 31st) to celebrate the late legend – who passed away from pancreatic two weeks ago.
The latest name added to the bill is none other than Ariana Grande.

In a statement issued by Franklin’s longtime publicist Gwendolyn Quinn, it was confirmed that Grande will perform at the star-studded send off in Detroit.
Per Quinn, Franklin first met Grande when the two performed at the White House in 2014 for then President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama as part of the ‘Women of Soul’ concert special.
The statement went on to stress that Franklin enjoyed meeting Grande at the time and that in the time since her passing, her family was especially moved by Grande’s performance of ‘A Natural Woman’ on ‘The Tonight Show.’
Ari joins previously announced performers Steve Wonder, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Faith Hill, Shirley Caesar, Chaka Khan and more.
Speakers at the funeral include former US President Bill Clinton, Reverend Jesse Jackson and Smokey Robinson.

Mariah would likely decline. She and Aretha were REAL friends (unlike the fake relationship they are trying to give to Ariana all of a sudden). Mariah said she learned from the MJ funeral performance that should can’t sing at funerals because the sorrow affects her voice. She is such a genuine singer who truly loved Aretha.
But i’m sure Mariah will be in the front or second row at the very least, just like she was there for her friend, Whitney 🙂
