After a rocky month, Camila Cabello unwrapped good news this week.

The set, which has birthed a number of singles including ‘Liar’ and ‘Shameless,’ has officially been certified Gold by the RIAA. A feat reflective of “equivalent sales” of 500,000 in the United States.
Following an aggressive sales push (one which included multiple covers, cassettes, vinyls, and a tour bundle), the project premiered with 80k – which was only enough to net it a #3 debut on the Billboard 200. Its peak position to-date.
In the time since its December 6th drop, ‘Romance’ has limped in and out of the top 20 with slow-but-steady sales.
So how did it magically arrive at 500,000 you may wonder?
Well, it’s a case of one rule for and another rule for the other. Because while the RIAA permits the inclusion of single sales accumulated before an LP’s release in its tallying of “album sales” for plaques, Billboard does not.
As such, Camila is undoubtedly benefitting in this instance from the numbers attached to standalone-single-turned-“lead single” ‘Senorita’ with Shawn Mendes. Especially as none of the follow-up efforts have made much noise on the charts.
That said, DaBaby collaboration ‘My Oh My’ looks to be gaining healthy momentum. Will it be enough to carry the campaign further?
