With his hit, ‘Toosie Slide,’ Canadian rapper Drake became the second artist in history to debut a single atop the Hot 100 three times over his career – an accomplishment only ‘Queen of Billboard’ Mariah Carey could boast at the time. Later, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande were able to as well (click here to read more).
Granted, the feat of nabbing multiple openings at the tally’s summit is ultra rare, but many will be surprised to know – even in the current era of streaming – how infrequently any act has premiered a song at the hitlist’s peak position at any point in his or her career. In fact, among the 1,120 #1 hits in Hot 100 history (which dates to Aug. 4, 1958), only 51 of them debuted at the top.
To celebrate Drizzy’s addition to the growing index, That Grape Juice thought it a great time time to salute the hitmakers who broke the ground before and after him.

Yes Whitney Houston charted to #1 in November 1995 even after she went into film..Whitney The Houston last greatest diva living or dead…. Nobody can sing like Whitney Houston..
My thoughts are that hype pre-release doesn’t beat overall chart success cause a lot of iconic artists have made this list with songs that are far from being their best or most remarkable.
And also that Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks standing next to Fantasia and Carrie is f***** up. Justice for Kath McPhee
Spotify has hit back at Drake over a legal filing the rapper made accusing the streamer and Universal Music Group of inflating the performance of ‘Not Like Us’ – Kendrick Lamar‘s diss track… Read More
Queen Britney Spears!
Nope! Mandy Moore is better
Most of these aren’t even my favorite song from the artist, but some I can see why they were #1.

Lmao it’s because billboard changed its rules this year. I think this is when they started to account YouTube views ?
Gurl that was a sad time in history
Sèxy and I know it by LMFAO also hit number one during this period if I’m not mistaken.
It was a painful year for music
If not for old town road, seniorita would have debuted at number one.

Ignore that insecure loser. Why can’t his “Cinderella” get a solo hit ?

But here u are, commenting trash as usual.
????
Never be the same a solo song, peaked at number 6
Higher than every normani song ever released.
Show me normani’s solo top ten hit, I’m waiting.
Watch as the idiot gonna stay mute
The same way motivation went viral was the same way this is America went viral. Celebrities posting about it on their Instagram and Twitter etc
But this is America debuted at number one and won several Grammy awards
While motivation debuted at number 33 and fell off the following week and didnt win shìt at any award show. Lol a flop.

Without u wasnt u2’s stoopid.. look at nanny’s songs: halt of them remake
This list just shows how easy it is to open at #1 compared to the previous decade that had achieved bonafide, memorable #1 hits
All that hype and no Beyoncé. Who she thinks she is fooling????
