New Video: Usher – ‘I Cry’

Published: Sunday 5th Jul 2020 by Sam

Usher has unwrapped the self-directed video for ‘I Cry.’

And it’s a family affair, because the singer’s sons Usher V and Naviyd contribute graphics to the visual (under their alias Dem Raymond Boyz).

Speaking on his rationale for releasing the emotional song, Usher said:

“This song was inspired by wanting to teach my sons that it is ok for a man to feel emotions deeply and to cry. Like many men, I was raised to believe that we have to be “tough” and not show our vulnerability, which I don’t want to teach them. While I was shut in during the pandemic and watching the death of George Floyd, the ongoing slaughter of Black men and women, the protests and the events that unfolded, I became very connected to the wider universal feeling of hopelessness. Like many, I grew increasingly frustrated by how slow things have been to change.  I became very depressed thinking about all the sons who have lost their fathers to police brutality, social injustice and violence; the daughters and mothers too. So I returned to this song and realized it was intended for this time, so I finished it and here it is.”

A portion of Usher’s proceeds from this record will be donated to LISC in support of the Global Goal: Unite For Our Future campaign.

A PORTON OF PROCEEDS. HERE WE GO!@
GO BACK TO YOUR MANY MANSIONS AND SIT ALL THE WAY DOWN. WE OUT HERE FIGHTING AND DYING LIKE NEVER BEFORE ANFD YOU TALKING BOUT AN ANTHEM. SICK OF THESE RICH ASS HOLES. WE ARE REALLY THE ONES ON THE FRONT LINES. MUTHA FUCKAS GO BACK TO THEIR MANSIONS EVERYDAY. WE ARE LITTERALLY FIGHTING FOR OUR LIVES

You are not fighting at all. More than likely, you haven’t even been to a peaceful or violent protest nor received any police brutality. And we all see you havent been killed, so stop. His ‘mansions’ wasn’t given to him. He worked his ass off for, more than anyone on this blog has worked. Just because he doesn’t work a regular 9-5 doesn’t mean he wasn’t working like everybody else, he just had a better job. If he wants to donate only a portion of the proceeds, that’s his business. What do you plan to donate? More than him? And we’re not being killed more than ever, POC were killed at rapid rates nearly 500 years and didn’t get a half ass solution until the Civil Rights Movement, people had it much worse and had more terrifying things to worry about than simply police brutality or having to video a racist.

When is he going to address his Herpesgate on his songs?

I wish they had moved in gradually on his face rather than make us stare at a close up the whole video. I think the intention, however, is for him to represent the people and make others see and understand our pain in spite of how uncomfortable it might be to look us in the eye and have a conversation about race.

I used to be the biggest usher fan, but at this juncture, I just want him to go away. This is also the worst album rollout I’ve seen since Ciara’s self-titled album in 2013. Absolute mess. He needs to go away during the pandemic, and maybe just do a Vegas residency once the pandemic is over. But no more music sir.

Sexbeat, California, and I Cry aren’t on the album. Only Don’t Waste My Time is from the singles he’s released recently. Sexbeat is a song from 2017 he didn’t even want to release, Lil Jon forced him to. California was just for that show Songland. Then I Cry he wrote cuz he felt the need to finish it and release it.
