The ‘Havana’ singer joined millions worldwide in expressing outrage over the shooting of Jacob Blake – an unarmed Black man who was struck seven times by police in front of his children.
Taking to Instagram, she shared a tweet from US House Candidate Jamaal Bowman and added the caption:
“I just have no words… I am closing my eyes and praying for this man and his family, I’m praying for his physical healing as well as the eventual healing for this trauma, grief, loss, and necessary rage, pain, and anger of his family and I’m praying for the collective healing of this country, of our Black brothers and sisters who have to live in a world that’s given them so much pain. We DEMAND a new world. We need change, we need these cops ARRESTED, and we need a sign that this government has enough empathy and cares enough about humanity to do something about it.”

The protests for Jacob are uncalled for. Witness video clearly shows him storming away from the officers who were trying to stop him before he reached into the car. No officer in that moment is going to wait to find out whether he’s pulling a gun. Jacob put his own kids at risk, but people don’t want to see it that way. It has become a knee-jerk reaction to take to the streets and post on social media any time a black man is shot by police, and all that does is throw us into further chaos.
Idiot. Even if someone commits a crime or walks away from cops, that shouldn’t result in 7 shots to their back. It shouldn’t be comply or d i e. Officers are trained to aim for legs and feet so that criminals cannot flee. You justifying that those officers were right to do that to that man shows that you are part of the problem.
You are incorrect. Officers are trained to shoot center mass. And it’s not about walking away. Officers have to look at what the person is walking TO. In this case, he was going to the car and reached in. He was shot in the back because he was not given the chance to possibly turn around with a gun. I know five black male police officers and they would all tell you the shooting was justified.
