The Weeknd Covers Esquire / Talks Usher Feud, Racism, & New Music

Published: Tuesday 25th Aug 2020 by Ryan

The Weeknd is laying it all on the line.

The music superstar covers the latest issue of Esquire, where he talks his feud with Usher, racism, and more.

Full story below:

When it comes to his rumored feud with Usher, he insists that there really was never a conflict between the two to begin with, saying:

“I hit him up to apologize and tell him that it was misconstrued. He’s one of the reasons why I make music. Definitely. No, no, I have nothing bad to say about Usher. The sweetest, most down-to-earth guy ever.”

The ‘Blinding Lights‘ singer opened up on if he had experienced racism in the industry, saying:

“I probably have, you know? I probably have for sure. But I try to focus on making it about the music and trying to succeed.”

He also dished on writing music for other artists and his plans to write an entire album for a female artist, saying:

“I’m a writer. Sometimes I write a song and it’s not in my head. I’m writing it for someone else, but then I end up singing it. I want to write a whole album for a female artist. I have a whole vision of the Weeknd. But I guess it’s like . . . it’s the same reason why I want to write for someone else?”

While the hitmaker may want to write songs for other artists, he did reveal that he has been busy in quarantine making music for himself too. He did not give any more details as to releasing anything new, but here’s to hoping the follow up to ‘After Hours’ comes soon.

Also, The Weeknd is wearing the same shoes my grandfather wore in the 90’s. Not a good look

Did they ask him why he refuses to date black women

    • #WAP August 25, 2020

It’s probably because black women make him feel like an idiot since they’re intelligent queens and he didn’t even finish high school. That’s why he prefers the likes of Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid…they didn’t finish school either. He couldn’t handle a melanin Queen

I read every word of the full interview on Esquire. He is extremely talented and beyond focused, working on various forms of writing (music and multiple screenplays at the same time). Love the focus. 🙂 So much to say (I could go on and on)….but basically, his record label needs to say “YES!” to anything and everything he wants for the next 10 years of his career. 🙂

New album hopefully by the end of the year. His latest was cute, but nothing more than an 80’s extension to Starboy.

Interesting choice of songs he picked that define him 😎🤳🏽
