In August 2019, Taylor Swift earned her 44th top 20 hit when the title track from her seventh studio album, ‘Lover,’ was lifted to #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 (as we reported here).
Tying Queen of Pop Madonna‘s longstanding record for most top 20 hits among women at the time, Swift snatched the title from Madge the next year when ‘Cardigan’ – the lead single from her eighth studio album ‘Folklore’ – debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 and later led other of the album’s cuts, ‘Exile,’ ‘The 1,’ ‘The Last Great American Dynasty’ and ‘My Tears Ricochet,’ into top 20 terrain as well.
Now, thanks to newly charted music found aboard her ninth studio album, ‘Evermore,’ Taylor looks poised to hold on to the title forevermore as she’s added even more songs from her prized discography to the distinct honor.
More inside:
As has become standard fare, every song from Swift’s album simultaneously impacted the Hot 100 – some even helping to extend her record for ‘most top 40 hits among female acts’ to 78 entries. However, only one entered the top 20: ‘Willow.’
Thanks to the #1 debut of new single ‘Willow,’ Swift not only joined Mariah Carey, Drake, Ariana Grande, and Justin Bieber as the only acts in Hot 100 history to have debuted 3 different songs atop the tally but she also extended her record of most top 20 hits among females.
Now at 50 Hot 100 top 20 hits total, Taylor extends the distance between herself and nearest all-time competitors Madonna (44), Rihanna (42), Nicki Minaj (38), and Mariah Carey (33). Among all artists, only Lil Wayne (51) and Drake (67) have more.
