The Pop Stop: ABBA, Mimi Webb, & More Deliver This Week’s Hidden Gems

Published: Saturday 23rd Oct 2021 by Ryan

Readers of That Grape Juice know how passionate we are about music – whether that be past or present.

However, unlike our other segments – Retro Rewind, TGJ Replay, and From The Vault – The Pop Stop is the most in-depth look at Pop songs that may have flown under the radar over the last week that you should know, rather they be from music’s biggest stars or those on the rise.

This week, we want to highlight cuts from ABBA, Mimi Webb, Aries, and Seventeen.

Join us inside…

ABBA – Just A Notion

ABBA continues to share new tunes ahead of the group’s final album – ‘Voyage’ – due out November 5 and they keep getting better. ‘Just A Notion’ is classic ABBA. From the exuberant production – consisting of pulsating drums, tight vocal harmonies, and swinging piano – to the feel-good lyrics, ABBA has created yet another classic pop masterpiece.

Mimi Webb – Halfway

Rising music superstar Mimi Webb continues to prove how bright her star shines on her latest tune, ‘Halfway.’ Not a breakup song and not a moving on song either, instead Webb perfectly captures the feelings of being somewhere in between. When paired with anthemic drums, echoing shouts, and soft strings, Webb has created the recipe for a dynamic pop song that stands as a testament to her artistry.

Aries – One Punch

Multi-talented singer-songwriter Aries is back with another fantastic tune. This time around, he has shared the tune ‘One Punch’ from his upcoming album ‘Believe In Me, Who Believes In You’ (due out November 12). ‘One Punch’ is a classic indie-pop tune with assertive piano, handclaps, and a trap beat. However, the song truly shines in the lyrics, where Aries tells a Romeo and Juliet-esque fairytale, where he promises to always save the day. Romantic and catchy, Aries once more delivers a must-hear tune.

Seventeen – Rock With You

K-pop group Seventeen is back and better their latest release. This rock-based track features heart-racing synths, a fiery guitar progression, and a pounding beat. However, the elements of K-pop are not lost, as the song contains the same tight groove and melodic chorus found in many K-pop songs. While not breaking new ground musically, Seventeen has done something else: they have perfected the sound and, in doing so, created an absolutely perfect pop song. A song that stands among the year’s most memorable.
