That Grape Juice Exclusive: DJ Ace Unveils This Week’s #SPOTLIGHT3 From #EverythingRNB

Published: Saturday 11th Dec 2021 by DJ Ace

Here at That Grape Juice, we love all things R&B! So, fittingly, we’ve teamed up with DJ Ace – one of the UK’s most revered R&B connoisseurs and host of BBC 1Xtra‘s weekly series Everything RNB (which airs Sundays at 10pm).

Each week he’ll be rounding up his latest show and previewing what’s upcoming on the next episode. Right here on That Grape Juice.

Without further ado, check out the latest installment with DJ Ace below…

Your boy Ace is back to put you onto some of the fresh stR&B from near and far. Let’s jump into this week’s #SPOTLIGHT3

Sasha Keable – My Mind

‘Intermission’ is the long-awaited E.P from Sasha Keable. She says was 2 years in the making and was mostly inspired by her ex and the heartbreak she endured. ‘My Mind’ is a very honest and open account of the end of her 5-year relationship and all of the different emotions she experienced. Sasha perfectly poured her feelings into this track, it may just give you goosebumps!

Stalk Ashley – Complicated

I’ve been a fan of Jamaican R&B artist Stalk Ashley for a while now. I made ‘Summer 16’ one of my #SPOTLIGHT3 tracks a couple of months ago and she’s back with a dope EP entitled ‘Excuses, Pt.1’. ‘Complicated’ gives a middle finger to a toxic ex while reflecting on the time she wasted.

************

Jaz Karis – Home

The R&B girls are really in their emotional bag this week! Jaz Karis dropped her latest single ‘Home.’ The ballad is accompanied by visuals that show behind-the-scenes footage of her shows and travelling around the country.

‘Home’ details loving someone from afar, despite not being able to be together physically.

Posting on her Instagram page,  Karis said: “Strangers turn into best friends, best friends turn into lovers, and lovers into strangers again, but where is Home?”

Make sure you catch me on 1Xtra’s R&B Show this week Sunday from 10pm. I’ll be joined by Lucky Daye and Neila.

Leiyah will also be handling this week’s #RNB1TAKE. You can also catch last week’s show on the BBC Sounds app to check out my conversation with Mahalia.

Your boy Ace is back to give you yet another #SPOTLIGHT3. I’ll be putting you on to 3 of the hottest R&B tracks that dropped this week. Let’s get into it!

SZA – ‘I Hate U’

‘I Hate U’ has been making its rounds on TikTok for the past few weeks, despite not being officially released. This week SZA finally dropped the track, revealing on her social media that the song started off in the notes on her phone and was just somewhere to dump her thoughts. Expect to see these lyrics in Instagram captions for the foreseeable future.

Khalid – ‘Voicemail (ft. Kiana Ledé)

Khalid has blessed us with his first mixtape entitled ‘Scenic Drive: The Tape.’ The project features collaborations with the likes of Alicia Keys, Ari Lennox, and Majid Jordan. ‘Voicemail’ featuring Kiana Ledé has firmly cemented itself as my favorite track and has been on repeat since it dropped.

**************

Mary J. Blige – ‘Good Morning Gorgeous’

The QUEEN Mary J Blige dropped not one, but two dope singles this week. The first was ‘Amazing’ featuring DJ Khaled, the second, entitled ‘Good Morning Gorgeous.’ The latter follows Mary’s trademark soulful blueprint while detailing self-love and positive affirmations, after a low point in life. Both tracks seem to signal the build-up to a new Mary album; hopefully, we’ll see that sometime in early 2022!

Don’t forget I am back on the radio this coming Sunday from 10pm for 1Xtra’s R&B Show. I’ll be chopping it up with Mahalia, and pressing play on her 2018 1Xtra Live performance. As always, I’ll be spinning the best in new R&B from all over the world, set your alarms!
