Juanita Bynum Blasts Critics Who Called Her ‘Hypocrite’ For Dancing To Secular Music After She Condemned Others For The Same

Juanita Bynum is not here for being deemed a hypocrite!

Just days after a clip of the Gospel singer and prophetess preaching against the juxtaposition of “being saved” and listening to secular music flew to viral status on social media (as we reported here), backlash brewed when a video of her dancing to Mary J. Blige‘s 2007 hit ‘Just Fine’ inconveniently resurfaced.

The timing of Bynum’s sermon drew particular attention as many took it as a subtle dig against Twinkie Clark, the lead singer of the legendary Gospel quartet The Clark Sisters, who is currently embroiled in controversy for allowing their song ‘Center of Thy Will’ to serve as the center of Beyonce‘s profanity-laden ‘Renaissance’ hit ‘Church Girl.’

In response to critics who have branded her message hypocritical, Juanita took to the pulpit to address the claim head-on.

During a sermon broadcast live from YouTube Tuesday (August 23), the 63-year-old hit back at detractors who slammed her for saying one can’t be saved and listen to secular music.

Starting her response to the critics at the video’s 52-minute mark, Bynum began by defining what “secular” music entails before later addressing the MJB visual.

“What y’all think about the fact she was dancing to Mary J. Blige,” she said at the video’s 59:22 timestamp. “First of all, I don’t justify that.  The words [of the song] are not sinful and not provocative, but nevertheless it was a wait, it was three years ago, and when you live in the presence of the Lord for a year-and-a-half and you lock yourself in church and you get on your face before God and the Lord began to deal with you and you get in the presence of the Lord, you don’t get up the same.”

Juanita admitted the clip did not show her in the best light, but assured her listeners she repented and has been delivered from the desire to get down to MJB.

“We all got sloppy and then we got sloppier, some of us, when the pandemic came. But I had an encounter with God in this building on this very floor,” she said. “When I laid in His presence and He visited me, I got up different. I got up saying, ‘God deliver me again’ and ‘God save me again.'”

Before ending her discussion on the matter, Bynum made clear she may not have been the best representative of Christ during her Blige-inspired boogie but that doesn’t mean she committed a sin.

“Do I feel like I sinned? No. But it was a wait and was a stumbling block for somebody,” she said. “The Lord had to catch me and correct me and tell me, ‘I called you to be a prophet. I didn’t call you to dance down the aisle.'”

    Good for her.

Criticize ur own sins and behavior, before checkin’ others because in 2022, we have receipts…

And you will get called out.

    • Anne August 25, 2022

She criticized her own behavior AFTER checking others…not before. And she only did so because of the receipts being thrown in her face.

      • True Tea August 25, 2022

        Exactly!

That’s basically what I was saying.

  2. yup! August 24, 2022

Why is it that anti-Christian or anti “religious” platforms never find courage to post something against Muslims or “discuss” their views according to the Quaran?

    • Tito August 25, 2022

      That part !!!!!!!!!

      • Cuz August 25, 2022

Muslims and others don’t go around pointing out everyone else’s shortcomings every chance they get.

  3. Tito August 25, 2022

Lol 😂 what?!?! This is literally a super positive song about loving yourself and being classy . What kind of receipt is this? Are you talk about this five second electric slide 🙄 #stopit 🛑

    • Credits August 25, 2022

Exactly! I wouldn’t necessarily regard this song as “secular.”

    • Anne August 25, 2022

Bynum is the one who considers her behavior wrong, ungodly or unChristian like. She criticized other for simply dancing…and now admits (bc of the video) that she was doing the very thing that she criticized others for doing, but she says she has repented.

  6. FAF August 25, 2022

I mean Beyoncé fans are doing a bit much to defend it

Why would you take a gospel song and sing about dropping your ass and shaking your titties in it

Mary j just fine is about feeling good about yourself that’s not the same let’s not be dumb

  7. stan August 25, 2022

god, who cares. gospel people need to get laid and relax.

    • Hmm August 25, 2022

But they are getting laid. They either need to stop or forgive themselves for enjoying it and stop letting their guilt drive them to self-righteous extremes. They “sin” just like everyone else, then they pray, speak in tongue, and go crazy trying to control others as if telling folks what to do will somehow redeem them.

How many times a year does Juanita get saved? Last week she climbed up on her high horse, looked down on everyone else and fixed her mouth to declare that all secular music was “the devil’s music”. She made no mention of lyrics, nor did she criticize or confess her own sins. This week she gets busted and now lyrics matter. Suddenly her sins are all good because she got re-saved a year or so ago…a year or so after she danced to MJB and got up in the pulpit to serve. If she don’t go somewhere with her bull-isht and sit tf down!! At this point she just needs to take this L and shut up. Note to church folks: Don’t to throw stones if you live in a glass house!!!!

PS: Gotta love the internet “replay” receipts for revealing the real frauds and hypocrites.

      My thoughts exactly! Well said!

Now ain’t that something! A person having a good time and gets critized for it. Well you churchgoers who claim you are so holy where are faults? Let’s pull some skeletons out your closets and see what we find. Are you forgetting Moses’s sister Miriam danced and sang while playing the tambourine. David probably tapped his feet while writing a few psalms. I didn’t hear God condemning a person for singing or dancing. Especially people of color. We have rhythm built in us. It’s a part of our moral fiber. Oh but wait! Now that you are “save” you have become holier-than-thou. Watch it! You don’t have any authority over what another human being does! And remember “Don’t judge “because it may return in an unpleasant way . Also some of you don’t realize that our Christian music derived from secular music. Now to you Mrs. Bynum don’t apologize. That’s the worst thing you can do. Don’t bow down to those fools who critized you. If you can’t live you life in a manner you see fit, the best thing to do is leave those people and do your thing.

  10. Von-dei vou August 31, 2022

She did nothing wrong. she is human just like us. God didn’t say cause you a prophet u can dance and listen to secular music. he said praise and worship me and do right in my eye sight. We all have to live for God and ourselves. God knew her heart. Now if she popped and locked to Beyonce song then that will be a different story. The Clark Sisters didn’t know what the words of the song was gonna be they didn’t ask they were just focused on the bag. not their fault Beyonce used their song in an negative way.

Juanita Bynum I thank you for being honest and asking for forgiveness for dancing to ungodly music. Please remember that just like Jesus you are a leader.
