GRAMMYs 2023: That Grape Juice Predicts General Field Nominees

Published: Tuesday 8th Nov 2022 by Ryan

With the GRAMMY Awards announcing nominations next Tuesday (November 15), Beyonce, Adele, and Bad Bunny are all poised to pick up several nominations each.

However, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, and Kendrick Lamar may be hot on their trails in some of the main categories.

With the Album of the Year category expanded to ten nominations and the other major categories consisting of eight nominations, there is no shortage of competition.

Join us below as we reveal our predictions…

Album of the Year

Beyonce, ‘Renaissance’: Already the most awarded woman in the history of the GRAMMY Awards, Queen Bey will likely appear in this category with her most recent album.

Adele, ’30’: Having won twice in this category before for her albums ’21’ and ’25,’ Adele will most likely land a nomination at next year’s ceremony.

Bad Bunny, ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’: Bad Bunny’s most recent album saw a wave of commercial success, being the longest-reigning #1 album of the year on the Billboard 200 chart. As a result, he will likely land a nomination here.

Harry Styles, ‘Harry’s House’: Until Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ rolled into town, Styles’ ‘Harry’s House’ had the biggest sales week of the year and multiple top 10 singles on the Billboard 200, which should be enough to land a nomination here.

Taylor Swift, ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’: Speaking of Taylor Swift, the re-recording of her album ‘Red’ saw heaps of critical acclaim – her most acclaimed to date – as well as one of last year’s biggest sales weeks. Therefore, it is all but guaranteed to land a nomination.

Ed Sheeran, ‘=’: While not as commercially successful as his last album, ‘Divide,’ ‘=’ still produced two singles that charted for a year on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, enough success to land him a nomination.

Kendrick Lamar, ‘Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers’: Again, not as commercially successful as its predecessor, ‘Mr. Morale’ still received a decent amount of acclaim. Plus, the GRAMMYs tend to have a soft spot for Lamar.

ABBA, ‘Voyage’: Their first album in forty years also promises to be the group’s last, which combined with the nostalgia and the praise upon its release, will be enough to score a nomination here.

Brandi Carlile, ‘In These Silent Days’: A GRAMMYs favorite, Brandi Carlile has a previous nomination in this category with ‘By the Way, I Forgive You,’ enough to secure her another nomination here.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, ‘Raise the Roof’: While not as commercially successful as the other albums on this list, Plant and Krauss previously picked up the coveted Album of the Year award for their project ‘Raising Sand’ in 2009. That, along with critical praise, is enough to land it a nomination.

Record of the Year

Taylor Swift, ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version)’: Serving as one of the most acclaimed songs of all time, ‘All Too Well’ seems certain to score a nomination here.

Adele, ‘Easy On Me’: Topping the charts for 10 weeks, ‘Easy On Me’ is a tender ballad destined to go over well with GRAMMY voters, therefore, a nomination is likely.

Beyonce, ‘Break My Soul:’ Beyonce is currently tied with Frank Sinatra with seven nods each in this category. However, given her GRAMMY history, she will likely surpass his record and set one all her own with a nomination here.

Doja Cat, ‘Woman’: Afrobeats took over last year and one of the more successful singles leading the pack was ‘Woman,’ which became a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lizzo, ‘About Damn Time’: From viral trend, to #1 single, to a future GRAMMY nomination, Lizzo’s smash hit has been undeniable.

Harry Styles, ‘As It Was’: The longest-reigning song of the year so far, ‘As It Was’ is poised to pick up a nomination based on chart success alone.

Billie Eilish, ‘TV’: Billie Eilish is no stranger to this category, having won twice before and with ‘TV,’ she could pick up her third win.

Zach Bryan, ‘Something in the Orange’: For their country selection, the GRAMMYs will most likely go with this number from rising star Zach Bryan. Gaining heaps of critical praise and becoming a top 20 hit, it is all but assured a nomination.

Song of the Year

Adele, ‘Easy On Me’: Adele won in this category six years ago with ‘Hello’ and also won years earlier for ‘Rolling in the Deep,’ all making a strong case for a nomination here.

Kendrick Lamar, ‘The Heart Part 5’: Having scored two previous nominations here, Lamar will likely make it three come nomination time.

Taylor Swift, ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version)’: Having become the longest song to ever top the charts along with heaps of praise for the additional lyrics, Swift will likely make an appearance here.

Beyonce, ‘Break My Soul’: Having been nominated four times before with one win, Beyonce could soon make it another one with this nomination.

Harry Styles, ‘As It Was’: While he has yet to be nominated for Song of the Year, the success of ‘As It Was’ is enough to land him his first nomination here.

Various Artists, ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’: This Disney smash hit topped the Billboard Hot 100 and was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, which alone is enough to score a nomination.

Lady Gaga, ‘Hold My Hand’: Lady Gaga is a GRAMMY darling and as a result this song from a blockbuster movie is guaranteed a slot here.

Joji, ‘Glimpse of Us’: Another viral song that became a hit, Joji could land his first-ever nomination thanks to this song.

Best New Artist

Latto: Not only did she earn her first top 20 album with ‘777,’ but she also scored a top 5 hit with ‘Big Energy.’

Zach Bryan: Having released his major label debut with ‘American Heartbreak,’ the album has been undeniable on the charts and produced a top 20 hit with ‘Something in the Orange.’

Rina Sawayama: While she was passed over when her album ‘Sawayama’ was released, 2023 could be the year that Rina Sawayama scores her first GRAMMY nomination thanks to the praise and success of her sophomore album ‘Hold The Girl.’

Lainey Wilson: Another rising country music star, Lainey Wilson has dominated the genre specific award shows, which will likely lead to a nomination here.

Joji: having scored a top 10 hit with ‘Glimpse of Us,’ Joji is assured to land a nomination here.

Muni Long: Having scored her breakthrough single with ‘Hrs and Hrs’ Muni Long could land a nomination in this category.

Mitski: While a few albums deep into her career, Mitski saw major commercial success with her most recent album, enough to land her a nomination here.

Sam Fender: Already seeing a major year overseas and being hailed as this generations’s Bruce Springsteen, Sam Fender could land his first GRAMMY nomination here.

Break My Soul for SOTY?…if so, has to be because of name association. If Normani or Chloe or whoever would have sang that song, we would be even talking about.
